Interesting to compare to current homes. Beautifully restored. Stairs to negotiate, but elevator available for special needs. The view is amazing. Docent led tour sometimes available. Be sure to read the postings throughout.

Beautiful old house. Apparently has great views, but were were there on a rainy, foggy day. It was still great ... even after we walked there uphill from downtown, 4 miles in drizzle and chill.

Staff is very friendly and knowledgable about both the mansion and the area in general.

Incredible views, incredible history. Worth the admission price. They decorate for the holidays in December. You can either drive (it's in Forest Park), or hike.

The tour of this grand home was very interesting. The family of the publisher of The Daily Oregonian was wealthy but still down-to-earth. The house has been nicely restored (even though most of the furnishings are not original to the family) and gives a good glimpse into the life of a wealthy family of the time. The gilt ceiling of the music room and the tiled ceiling of the smoking room are both exquisite. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the views from the top of the hill where the house is situated are breathtaking, covering almost all of Portland and east. The Wildwood Trail goes from the mansion to Washington Park or to the Arboretum- both interesting trails and worth the walk (even back uphill to the parking lot).

We love to tour homes, this tour is very intimate, you can take a complimentary guided tour by a volunteer or choose to go off on your own, we did a bit of both. This is a beautiful home with interesting design and rooms. The Mr.'s shower incredible for it's day, incredible for our day! Beautiful marble floors and lovely grounds.
