We were here on a very cool misty fall day and the gardens were just gorgeous. The maples with their vivid colors, and the paths with little hidden spots are wonderful and so calming. There's a lovely waterfall spot with a koi pond, a stone garden, a beautiful little bridge over a stream that has a great view over another pond area - just one beautiful spot after another. You have to be careful in some areas if the stones are wet, but nothing is too trying. We took the walk up to the garden rather than take the shuttle, and while a little steep, it's worth it. Approaching it from that angle with the building appearing above was awesome! A lovely gem just minutes from the city center.

What an amazing place to be tucked into a bustling city. We could just feel the stress melt away. Beautiful and inspiring.

I have been visiting this garden for over 20 years. It has own amazing history in Portland. This place has been my sanctuary, inspiration and a special place to bring my friends and family. Parking can be hard to find over the weekend. If you want a quiet time in the garden, I recommend going there on the weekdays.

I was traveling alone and found it a bit out of the way but it is very beautiful as are the close by rose gardens. I recommend both. The shuttle driver in park was super nice and helpful

These gardens were beautiful; God's handiwork is amazing. Wonderful fall color even in mid-November. Takes about 2+ hours to go through if you stop at the little Japanese cafe as well. Highly recommend this outdoor experience if you are visiting Portland!! Just make sure you buy plenty of time on the parking pay meter.

Portland Japanese Garden is a very authentic Japanese Garden. It has a very similar feel of traditional Japanese gardens you will encounter in Kyoto.

We were amazed at the beauty and colors at the Portland Japanese Gardens! Spent about 3 1/2 peaceful hours there. They have gorgeous, maintained paths, bridges and assorted, fun walkways to each different area. Not easy for wheelchairs, or people with unstable walking. Many stairs, stony paths and hills. Heard they do have a shuttle up to the gardens. But for those fortunate to enjoy this sort of thing- a must and a treat for all the senses. We found lovely gifts in the shop, and enjoyed some fresh rice, soup and incredible matcha tea in the cafe.

this is one of the most japanese gardens outside of japan. it is better than seattle's and los angeles'. and the fall is the best time to tour it while the leaves are changing colours. sometimes you get an extra treat with art displays in the japanese house

We loved our visit here and it should be on the top of your list if you’re visiting Portland! We could have wandered for several hours. The staff provided a scavenger hunt paper for the kids that they *loved*. We really enjoyed our time here. Highly recommended!
