“Free and beautiful place for a stroll”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Strolled through here in early October and so many roses still in bloom. Nice place to visit and free. Great place to take photos. Right below the Japanese Garden, a bit of a drive up once you get into Washington Park.

“Beautiful visit!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

If you are here in the summer or early fall, you must visit. We went in September when all the roses were perfect. I suggest that you go early in the morning if you go on a weekend. We were there by 8:30 and by 10, it was getting pretty crowded and the parking lot was full. Great view of Portland from this location and you can see Mt. Hood so well on a nice day. Had a bit of a challenge with the GPS in getting to the garden because of some odd one-way streets, so make sure you have a map or get good directions. Happy sniffing!

“Good when you get there”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Baking hot day but Mt Hood visible in the distance. A must for rose lovers and those wanting a break from downtown.

Travel by tram to the zoo and then wait for a bus (which aren't that frequent out of season i.e. after Labor Day) as it is a long walk through the park but don't expect help from the bus driver, maybe he was having a bad day.

“The roses' perfume is wonderful”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

With easy access to almost all of the garden by wheelchair, the garden is a great place to spend a couple of hours. The variety of roses is amazing; their colors are sometimes quite astounding but the most wonderful aspect of the International Rose Test Garden is the fragrance of the place. I could spend hours just inhaling the perfume. I don't know what they do with all the petals after they fall on the ground but I would hope that they are collected and turned into fragrance products to be sold for the benefit of the garden.
