Gorgeous park, roses everywhere, art and science combined in super treat for the eyes and nose (Stop and smell the roses, this is the place!), suggest that a stay of at least two hours is a good idea, (take a drink and a snack and use the benches to take it all in a little at a time), and hats off to the garden folk, they are outstanding.

Whilst just a 10 minute tram ride from the city, Washington Park is well worth a visit. The International Rose Garden was the highlight, with an incredible array of colours and fragrances .... and, unlike the Japanese Gardens, it is free to enter.

Plenty of roses to see and smell even at the end of September. We took a tour bus. Parking looked difficult.

We've been to many rose gardens (Rome, Berkeley), but this was far, far larger with lots of roses in bloom, even in late September. Definitely worth a visit..and then one can go to the Japanese garden across the street during the same outing.

Even late in the Season the variety and quality of the roses was impressive. I'm not a big flower fan, but enjoyed walking around and checking out the variety. Also a great playground just down the street for the kids.
