Went there on a Friday night in July and the place was buzzing with activity. Very energizing and fun.
This is actually a really nice spot in the city centre, but there wasn't much going on when were there in late October. There's a fantastic tourist office you enter on a walkway in the centre of the fountain, Starbucks (of course), some food trucks, and the street sign with all the cities on it is pretty cool, but there is also a lot of homeless people and addicts hanging around, which is a big issue in the city in general. We'd like to go back in the summer when things are happening. Sure it would be a better experience.
We were not even customers, but were stranded and couldnt get through on the phone to our Enterprise car rental. The manager, Marissa, made a call to a radio cabfor us, and saved the day. She was very helpful us tuesday oct 23 . We appreciate her kindness.

This was a wonderful area to enjoy, find information, have a snack or a meal, do some shopping. There are also mass transit stops next to the square.
There are great festivals here during the Summer months. Nice place to sit and enjoy and iced tea or coffee if there isn't a festival going on.
I guess the day and time we went there wasn’t much going on. Unfortunately lots of homeless people in the downtown area. Seems a lot of activities go on but I guess it’s mostly on a weekend or in the evening. Nothing going on when we were there. Lots of high end stores, restaurants and coffee shop. Parking is horrific in the downtown area.
This was a interesting stop. The farmers' market is wonderful. You can try free samples as well. There is an all gender bathroom in the visitor info center that is more of a tourist site. There is an attendant and as odd as it seemed, it was clean and there was an attendant posted to assist with cleaning and answering questions. The Square has other events and is there for the people of Portland to enjoy.
While I visited Portland on my 5 day stay there were 4 events at this place that were so much fun. There is always something going on here and it is a fun place to rest and hang-out with your lunch.
We stopped by Pioneer Courthouse Square while we were walking around Portland. On the day we visited, a large homeless presence was less visible than some other reviews have commented upon. A Native American festival was in progress and there was a lot of activity with displays and booths selling various items. There was also a bustling food truck presence. Although we did not stop for food, it would be a great place to do this - or at least it was on the day we visited.
I read that seeing Pioneer Courthouse Square was a "must." Well, it's a city center, but it's not that interesting... It's a square in the middle of a city - the courthouse is on one side. There is a visitor center there & this is where several tours begin.
Great place to socialize with the addicted and mentally ill if that's what you want to do. Plenty of neck tattoos and yelling to keep things interesting while downtown.
