Most days I walk along a mile of the west side of Tom McCall Waterfront Park. While you have to be careful of fast moving bicyclists, there are surprisingly few collisions. The waterway walk is a very European-like experience since you can stroll awhile and then sit awhile on the park benches. If you are up for a good stretch of the legs, walk along one side of the Willamette River, cross a pedestrian sidewalk (available on most of the bridge), and walk along the other side. I've seen sea lions, bald eagles, and an assortment of watercraft. The Waterfront Park is a Portland treasure.

This is a nice place to go for a walk and see the Willamette River as well as the down town area of Portland. If you are into people watching, this is the place. Depending on the time of year, they have activities going on in and around this area. Portland Rose Festival activities, military ships come in and you can visit while down there. Quite an array.

Loved the scenery walking along the river. A fascinating combination of natural beauty, industrial ingenuity, funky commercialism, and civic pride.

Nice park, a bee hive of activity. Can get pretty crowded on nice weekends in the Summer. Lots of homeless as there is all over downtown Portland, but the paths are wide and there's room for everyone. Definitely worth a visit if it's your first time in Portland.
