We stopped by the Bite of Portland on a day that was very hot and humid. The park was dry and dusty. We have been to similar food sampling events in Seattle. This one was not worth the time or expense. W tried some salt and pepper chicken. It was tasty but tough. The lean sausages were too lean...dry and flavorless. The cheery turn overs appeared to be cooked in an easy bake oven. Not only was the food poor....you had to pay to get in the event. I won't go back

Any visit to PDX should include a stroll along the Willamette river via Tom Mc Call waterfront park. You can walk for an hour straight passing under several bridges which can be accessed by stairs if you want to walk to the east side of the river, where the OMSI museum is located (also recommended). At the south end is the boat marina, the Riverfront Hotel which has a good restaurant 3 Degrees with outdoor tables and a view of the marina, Mc Cormick and Shmick restaurant with outdoor tables featuring seafood, the "in the river" Newport Seafood Grill with river views in all directions, Thirsty' s featuring fine wines and local beer and more smaller cafes, coffeshops and sport bars. And that is just the south end!
From there you can walk north along tree lined walks, past the geese eating grass and floating the river, Dragon boats paddling by, the Portland Spirit boat giving dinner cruises and river tours, in May the City Fair with fireworks and rides, a Bluesfest with July 4th fireworks and at this writing (end of July) a beerfest with samples of a stunning variety of great, mostly local made brews. Portland has the best beer on the planet, I've tried them all.
Soon will be Bite of Oregon, a "foodie" event with samples of many local eateries of interesting variety. Off the river 2 or 3 blocks are 2 Irish pubs, Paddy's and Kell's with Irish food and alcohols. A little further up is the notorious VooDoo doughnut shop. On Sat. there is a street market most of the year.
You can easily make a day of it and see the best part of downtown Portland at the same time.
Don't miss the river walk.

Been to this Park several times. There's a nice walk where there are stores, pizza and ice cream. Each time it's been a nice walk. There's also a water area that's pretty fun. Food nearby Newport Seafood Grill was pleasant but pricey if you sit inside on an occasion we sat outside and had ducks all around trying to get our food and their poop smell did not do my stomach any favors. :( There's also a restaurant at the River place hotel and we've come in twice and both times we've left before ordering because the staff has been not friendly. Ice cream store nearby is really nice and Pizza Schmizza are great, courteous staff and kid friendly. There are many festivals here and at times can get super crowded. The most popular ones might be the Jazz or Blues festival.

The park is one of the nicer amenities I've experienced in urban, downtown areas. It stretches for blocks along the Willamette River in downtown Portland. And for me it's also attractive as the location of the annual 4 (some years 5) day Waterfront Blues Festival, one of the largest in the U. S. This is my 3rd in the last 4 years.

had a short stay in Portland, and I decided to go to visit this park and take a walk by the Willamete River. The park is located in down town Portland. You can walk, jog, bike, walk your dog, and there seems to be a lots of office workers who have lunch there. I did not find the park was littered with dog crap. There are people skateboarding, reading on the grass, sunbathing. Everyone to their own. It has a good view of the Steel Bridge, the Oregon Maritime Center and Museum is also along the river walk. So as the Japanese American Historical Plaza. All in all, I had a good walk and enjoyed the view.
