“Not great”

It's just a waterfront. And it's not gorgeous. It's just ok. A little dirty and it looks very run - down.

“Great place to walk!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

For those visiting Portland and if you just want to take a nice leisurely stroll, go on Waterfront Park! You'll see a lot of portlanders running, walking on the waterfront. It's a great way to view the bridges. You can also cross the bridge and take a nice stroll over on the eastbank explanade. On the weekends, you can pass by Saturday Market (not year round so you might want to look it up on dates/times). If you go a little south, you'll hit some restaurants and the south waterfront area.

“Its a waterfront!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

I'm not sure what people expect of a waterfront. It is a good place for people watching -as people are always running, walking, biking, etc along the waterfront and the eastside esplanade. I enjoy the parks, and most of the summer there is one festival or another going on. It also always mystifies me when I think about the fact that the highway used to run along the river and they moved the thing to make way for a park. Amazing.

“Centerpiece of a Great City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

The waterfront park was one of my favorite places in Portland when I visited in June 2012. It’s the centerpiece of this great city and there was plenty to do. I visited during the Rose Festival and many activities were planned for the waterfront. Naval vessels from around the world came to town and docked along the waterfront park for four days. Free ship tours were available and I signed up for several.

The Portland City Fair was open for three full weekends during the Rose Festival and it occupied several blocks along the waterfront park. My ride on the Sling Shot was crazy but enjoyable. A large audience gathered at the waterfront for the 2012 Dragon Boat Races on the Willamette River. They cheered the competitors loudly and enthusiastically, as did I. Eighty local, national and international teams competed in colorful Taiwan-style Dragon Boats, which are increasingly popular in the U.S.

The waterfront park was also a great place for a walk, or for just hanging out and enjoying the scenery. Portland is a pedestrian-friendly city with many biking/jogging/walking trails. I walked across the Steel Bridge from the waterfront park to the Eastbank Esplanade. I got fantastic shots of downtown Portland and the naval vessels from the Steel Bridge and from the east shore of the Willamette River. I then completed my walk by crossing the Morrison Bridge back to the park. Many bridges along the Willamette River join Portland’s east and west banks. Occasionally, traffic comes to a halt as a bridge opens to let a tall ship through. I was treated to a bridge opening as I crossed the Morrison Bridge.
