“Light dinner before concert or lecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is located in the theater across from the concert hall, so convenient for those attending an event there. Light dinners - salad, small plates, selection of wines. If attending an event, it's only a few steps to the concert hall. Good service, affordable. Much easier than trying to get into some of the other restaurants in this area.

“comfortable, intimate, great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

We eat here every time we go to the Newmark Theater. As the name implies, it's a bistro serving moderate-sized European portions excellently presented and tasty. The menu varies. The pear salad with arugula was delightful--very fresh. The deserts are superb. It's about $60 for two people including tip (we split a salad). Staff is very friendly. They have comfort food like burger and fries, and then more exotic thin sliced flank steak. Never a bad meal in the multiple trips we've made to Portland. We even eat there now before other cultural events across the city.

“Not bad, not exceptional”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2012

We had an experience that was neither outstanding but not bad. Normal wine bar, good servers and the food worked fine. I expected better based on price but no major complaints.

“Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2009

This restaurant is located in the ground floor lobby of two of Portland's theatres.

We had arrived early to see a Christmas performance at the theatre across the street, so we stopped in here to wait and to get out of the rain. It's quite elegant and chic, so we were a bit apprehensive.

We need not have worried! The servers were all friendly and pleasant, and the prices were much lower than we expected. The menu is not too extensive, but prices are reasonable, between $8 and $14 for entrees. We actually decided to just have a drink, but watched other tables being served, and the portions looked good sized.

They have two sections: one is in the outer lobby area where people come and go, and is more casual; the other is a slightly more formal dining room.

We will definitely plan to eat here next time we are in downtown Portland. It's a very pleasant, relaxing spot.
