“The Mother of places to bring your Grandkids!”

Historic, inclusive, varied and an easy navigation. 5 stars. Close in to the heart of the city, which is Pioneer Square... where one or two trains are on each side of the central block. Near shopping and other attractions.

“Great for kids, and people who like kids, adults however.....”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

Ok, I am a 60 year old childless adult and I am used to and prefer museums for adults, so there is my prejudice up front. OMSI is a hands on "try this" museum primarily for kids. And kids they have there, in the bajillions. Kids everywhere, hanging from every rafter, kids on every exhibit, running wild like banshees all over the place and nary a guardian in sight and if in sight, well, oblivious.
I was raised by strict parents in the 1950's and you didn't act like that, so its hard for me to tolerate, so I tried to go to the Imax, and get away from being slammed into. 5 adults in line and then a bus full of screaming ill behaved unsupervised kids jamming in front of the line, hanging on the ropes, you get the idea. So, if you are an adult and you want to actually USE the museum good luck. If you cannot control your child, here's a place he can join others out of control. Adults: try the submarine tour, but forget about enjoying the museum. If you love noise and chaos and screaming and running and kids abusing everything this is your place. I know it was designed for children, but you would think SOMEONE would teach their kids how to behave in a public place. Totally ruined the entire experience for me. And, of course, as always, these days, not an apology from anyone nor any direction to the child about his or her behavior. $12 to get in, $5.75 for submarine, $7 for IMAX, BEWARE DISABLED PEOPLE: The Imax is all stairs and steep ones at that. Beware heavy people: chairs in Imax are narrow. There are elevators and escalators. Submarine tour guy was in a hurry, had lots info but rushed. Plus side: All vendors and gate personnel were very, very nice. Parking $3 with some walking. Small snack bar only, no nearby food places. Tad tricky to get to (under overpass in industrial area). Lots of stuff, at least 3 hours to do even partially well.

Something for every kid at heart learner! A submarine, fosils, hands on learning galore. Hours of entertainment on every floor of this huge building. The Kinetic displays are a blast. Omnimax theater is fabulous.

“Good for Kids”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

Attended an event that was part of a science conference. excellent for kids with interested staff on hand to present their work. I thought the way that fossils were on display and kids could prepare original artifacts, was excellent.

“Body World”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

Loved the Body World exhibit! We had fun and it was very educational. We also got to enjoy the OMSI After Dark with the local distilleries. I love my OMSI shot glass and cant wait for the next time I get the chance to go.
