“Labor Day Weekend in Portland”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Just wanted to write a review to give feedback to anyone who is interested in staying here. My husband and I celebrated our 13th anniversary by taking a last minute trip to Portland from Denver. We have been fortunate enough to travel a little throughout the states and have stayed at various hotels and bed and breakfasts. The inn had a last minute cancellation for the Labor Day weekend and fortunately we were able to stay at the Fulton House.

We stayed in the wine cellar room which offered great privacy and a lot of space. We had our own rec. room area, bedroom and bathroom. The room was very clean and comfortable. We really felt like we were in our own home. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine. Wendy, the innkeeper, provided bottled water, sodas and in the kitchen there was a buffet of snacks and warm drinks available all day. My favorite were the chocolate chip cookies which welcomed us the first night. I actually looked forward to returning to the inn to see what treats awaited us.

The other two rooms in the Inn were upstairs. The other visitors were very quiet and respectful. Each morning we were treated to a delicious hot breakfast that was different the three days we spent there. My husband does not eat gluten and dairy and Wendy kindly and knowledgeably accommodated his needs. Some examples of our breakfasts were waffles and sausage; a fantastic egg and potato soufflé with bacon; and croissant french toast. We also appreciated the quality of the food - no nitrates or artificial ingredients. Everything was fresh and wholesome.

The location is part of Portland but south of the other parts of the city. We were able to walk near the Williamette river and use public transportation efficiently. There were a few restaurants within walking distance and we did eat at Porcelli's - an Italian restaurant, which we enjoyed. Finally the neighborhood was very quiet - we slept with the window opened every night.

Overall this experience could not have been better. Thank you.

Room Tip: If you would like extra space we recommend the wine cellar.

My wife and I visited Portland for the first time this July. The Fulton House B&B provided comfortable and convenient accommodation for our three-day stay. Our room was spacious and included a lovely covered veranda where we could read and relax. Wendy, our host, was very pleasant and obliging and her breakfasts were a highlight of each day. We highly recommend the Fulton House to anyone visiting Portland.

Room Tip: The Blue Heron Room has a north exposure (cooler in the summer) and a covered veranda.

From the moment we pulled up in our car, I knew we had made the right choice. We were traveling with another couple and all four of us had the same great experience! Wendy, the owner went far above the call of duty to be sure that we had a pleasant stay. She is inviting and so very knowledgeable about the area AND surrounding cities. I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in the door. We stayed in the Garden Room and our friends stayed in the Blue Heron (which has a charming veranda.) The beds were super comfy and the linens were top notch. We had everything we needed and then some. Upon returning to our room later in the afternoon we were met with freshly baked (home made) cookies on our night stand. Downstairs, we were told to make ourselves at home to anything in the refrigerator. There was also a small bottle of wine and wine glasses in our room as well. The bathroom products were top notch. Wendy cooked us an incredible breakfast each morning! We have stayed at a lot of B&Bs over the years and this one is at the top of our list! The small details were noted. Wendy has this right. If ever given a chance to visit Portland again, we will most definitely stay here again. No doubt! Thank you Wendy for a memorable stay. A++++++

Room Tip: The Garden Room is en suite, the Blue Heron has a bathroom outside of the room. Not a problem as the...

Love the Fulton House & would definitely return to the Garden room.
A delight at night to have warm cookies right before tucking in for the night.
A hot tub so good, even in the rain.
Hours could be spent looking through all the amazing books.
Breakfasts one better than the next, even 2 Buffalo Gap & owner Wendy makes service #1.
8 weeks of traveling this place simply the best where I felt the most at home.
Thank you Fulton House for a great stay! Kim

I really loved this Bed & Breakfast. It was the perfect place for my sister, my mom, and I to stay while exploring Portland. The breakfasts were amazing, and it was the perfect place to relax at the end of the evening, complete with hot tub. We felt right at home. It is in a nice, quiet neighborhood with bus access nearby and a great bar/grill down the street which we enjoyed as well. Wendy is the best!

Room Tip: We stayed in the wine cellar room and loved it, tons of room to spread out

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Fulton House. We had a large comfortable room with an outside balcony. Nothing was too much trouble for Wendy, in fact she drove us 3/4hr out of town to pick up our new motorbike. Breakfasts were the best! Thanks Wendy for a great start to our USA trip.

Room Tip: Great to have the outside balcony to relax in the evening.

We chose Fulton House randomly, but did use the TA reviews as a guide for our visit to Portland. We are glad we did.

This BnB is in a quiet neighborhood south of downtown about 10 min drive. There is a Zupan's grocery store (high end, but highly recommended also, for sandwiches, produce -- the local strawberries were in season, and delicious -- and all sorts of good stuff!) nearby, and we used it several times in our three days.

The Fulton House was a brothel floating on the Wilammette River (very close by) in its first life, many many years ago. A lovely Craftsman style home with a lovely front porch (and our room had the porch above, complete with wicker furniture), beautifully furnished by Wendy, the InnKeeper, and her husband 7 years ago. Wendy is active, smart, accommodating, and knows the area. Need a bike or hike route, Wendy has the info. Need a restaurant, Wendy has them.

The breakfasts were superb, including banana pancakes, a french toast made with a croissant(!) and an egg flan, fresh fruit every day. Wendy has several spare small umbrellas for guests. We mercifully didn't need it during our three day stay, but it was good insurance in our backpack.

Lost in Portland's many bridges and rivers and hillsides? Call Wendy! She gave us driving directions over the phone three times without missing a beat.

After a long day trip to the Columbia River gorge waterfalls and Mt Hood, the hot tub was a great relaxer, and we cracked open the complimentary wine in our room.

This is a BnB, not a 4 star hotel, but we were very pleased with the entire experience, and the value for price. We took the public bus into town and back on our first afternoon, and it was really a snap, saving us looking for parking places in an unfamiliar town.

Room Tip: The front room second floor has a wonderful private porch balcony. The bath and toiler are not en...
