Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

“Best strip steak ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2014 via mobile

Located in the Nines hotel, this place is fantastic in every respect. Had the oysters and a Caesar salad to start. Both very good. Martini was ice cold and perfectly made. But the best was the 21 day aged strip steak. I am a former New Yorker and travel constantly for work. Have eaten at most of the top steak houses in the US and would put Lugars in NY, Chop House in Chicago, Mastros in LA and Prime 112 at the top of list among others. But this steak was something legitimately special. Flavor was sublime, texture was perfect, cooked exactly Med Rare. So good that I didn't bother to waste room with the 5 sides we ordered. Lights out - I will be back next time in Portland. Well done!!

“Great Easter Brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2014

We live in Ashland Oregon and appreciate locally grown food. The Urban Farmer agrees with this philosophy and has built their restaurant on local farmers as well. Fresh food, great service and unique cocktails, how can you go wrong. We always enjoy a meal at the Urban Farmer.

“Quick Lunch and MmMmMm Good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

Went today (4/24/14) and had a really, seriously nice Lunch. First time there and was really impressed. Had a great Turkey Bacon with a side of mixed FRESH fruit and some Hot Peppermint tea and took my time eating it, the sandwich was HUGE and oh so good. With tip and all it was only $22 ($19.00 and a $3.00 tip) Service was the best I have had in a very long time. I will def. be back - I def. recommend this. I have a picture and will add it later, it's on my phone

“Great ambience, great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

The oysters were very fresh and succulent. Love the onion soup. The ribeye steaks were very good and the mushroom side order was excellent. On the whole we were very pleased with all our orders.

Topped off with excellent service by Dustin, who was friendly and accommodated all our special requests so charmingly.
Love the high ceiling and natural sky light, and a vey stylish and contemporary take on the decor.
