Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

Went today (4/24/14) and had a really, seriously nice Lunch. First time there and was really impressed. Had a great Turkey Bacon with a side of mixed FRESH fruit and some Hot Peppermint tea and took my time eating it, the sandwich was HUGE and oh so good. With tip and all it was only $22 ($19.00 and a $3.00 tip) Service was the best I have had in a very long time. I will def. be back - I def. recommend this. I have a picture and will add it later, it's on my phone

The oysters were very fresh and succulent. Love the onion soup. The ribeye steaks were very good and the mushroom side order was excellent. On the whole we were very pleased with all our orders.

Topped off with excellent service by Dustin, who was friendly and accommodated all our special requests so charmingly.
Love the high ceiling and natural sky light, and a vey stylish and contemporary take on the decor.

In a city with over 3000 restaurants, it's a testament that we went back twice on our trip. We went for happy hour with our Portland friend, and had some appetizers, which were delicious. The drinks were well-poured and bartenders really friendly. Dinner another night was one of the best meals I can remember. The restaurant is located in a hotel, in an open atrium, and the decor is modern, unstuffy, but comfortable. The lemon drop martinis have real lemon juice instead of mix, and it makes all the difference. The Caesar salad was crisp, fresh, and the flavors all mixed well. Tuna tartare with avocado, edamame and noodles was delicious. Half a dozen oysters served on a bed of ice with ponzu, fresh and sweet. Wine list, endless, and I loved that you could order half bottles. Love having that option. Hubby had duck breast which was moist and succulent, I had the steak. The sides came by themselves, served in small cast iron skillets! Mashed potatoes with everything, and a little crust on top. Yum. Creamed spinach with fine bread crumbs on top. Double yum. A really lovely night. I also loved that we weren't rushed, urged to enjoy our food and take our time. Rare.

I was on an awful business trip with awful company that just couldn't get along. We went to Sunday Brunch at Urban Farmer. We all sat down grumpy and silent. We hadn't been able to break the ice the whole trip. That was until our server Melody came over. She was wonderful. Her service was above and beyond what we all expected. Her knowledge of the wine and guidance with cocktails soon had the whole group getting along and cracking jokes. Not really sure how she did it but she really turned around our whole trip and from there out it was wonderful. If you are in the area and want a good meal, go see Melody at Urban Farmer for great service and good food.
