Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

“Very Nice For Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

This restaurant is in a hotel atrium but manages to still have a very nice ambiance. We had lunch for 3 yesterday and the roomy couches at the tables were very comfortable. The place is well lit and attractive. Our server was friendly efficient and helpful.
Two of us had steak salads and I had the Steak Frites. The steaks were perfectly cooked and juicy. We also shared a cheese platter as an appetizer that was out of this world with selections from France, Italy and Vermont.
Local beers on tap are a must for any Portland restaurant and this one had a nice selection.
Finally we had a meyer lemon souffle that was really delicious.
Overall I thought this was a great spot and I will definitely return.

“Great Place For Breakfest/Lunch/Dinner”

Great food and service. Prices are reasonable. The steaks are excellent with some of the best cuts of beef.

“Delightful for Brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

We had a wonderful brunch here on Christmas Eve. The waitress was adorable-helpful and friendly. I LOVED the decor, and as a former Meier and Frank employee (my office on the six floor is now a storeroom!) I was amazed at the wonderful renovation. Our meals were fabulous-especially my mother's beef hash-which the chef said he would send the recipe for-huh hm-hint hint. I just liked the entire 'vibe' of the place-especially how they source local produce and seem committed to quality while remaining unpretentious.

I also loved being able to make reservations online-so easy and efficient.

Thank you so much for the kind words! It's always fun to have former Meier & Frank employees in to see how the building was renovated. We are so glad you enjoyed yourself and especially on Christmas. We try so hard to make this an amazing place to dine and it's feedback like yours that makes it all worth while.

Thank you again!

“Overpriced, average steak house”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

This place is a bit of a snooze. Stakes are over priced and kind of average. Sides are good and occasionally inventive. Honestly, In the dozen times I've been here over that last few years I've come to the realization that here are better places to spend a special night out.

“Busy & noisy, classic steak house offering”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Urban Farmer is located in the atrium of The Nines hotel. Despite the large space, the restaurant was very noisy to the point of distraction. Menu features very large entrees and classic grille fare. A more modest Bar menu features sandwiches and nibbles.

I found the interpretation of the hamburger to be a bit fussy - tomato jam instead of ketchup, etc.
