I recently stayed one night while on business in Portland. The lobby is a lovingly maintained and original space with beautiful dark wood, rich carpets and period furniture, and interesting windows which all appear to be as they were when the Benson opened in 1912.
It's truly a grand space, which reminds me of some of the Edwardian period hotels I've stayed at in central London.
The room was small but comfortable, clean and tastefully appointed, with a great Tempur-Pedic bed.
I had the buffet breakfast which was savory and diverse, and the service was very attentive.
The wi-fi was free but a bit pokey, and my cell service in the room was dreadful, but cell service in downtown Portland is sketchy to begin with.
This is a lovely hotel with a great staff....an historic gem.More
