This farmers market is a must visit. Excellent produce, friendly people and well priced local products are featured at this market. You can spend up to two hours trying everything from beer, wine and cider to cheeses, meats and produce. I will always make a point of visiting the farmers market upon every visit to Portland from now on. Plus to attend is free. There are no bathrooms, however plenty of nearby places to buy a coffee and use the facilities.

Go to the food carts and get the Gyro from the Greek cart: best one I've EVER had. Great eclectic things to buy for self or presents

This is definitely the place to be midday on a summer Saturday! The colors of the fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, breads, cheeses, and other delectables are lovely, the people are friendly, and no one should leave empty-handed. There are samples to be had and a picnic in the making. We took our food just down the street a few blocks where there is an open space with tables, chairs, and a fountain good for dipping your feet and enjoying the company of others in the city. I highly recommend stopping by!

I visited the Pioneer Courthouse Square market with a small group of friends. We all came away happy and impressed. Variety, tons of produce and farm products (local, organic meats included), fantastic food (must visit Verde Cocina for the gringas, Spunky Monkey for the lavender mocha, etc.), friendly people. Tokens make shopping easy even if you didn't happen to bring cash. I would make another trip to Portland just to visit the Farmer's Market again.

I realize that a farmers market is not everyone's idea of a tourist attraction. But being the food geeks that we are, my husband and I like to visit them in a new place, to get a feel for the local foodie culture. In Portland, the Saturday market is unbelievable. We only wished we had a better way for transporting food home. It was wonderful to sample so many local goodies, but we had to be selective; the risk of taking a jar of pickled beets in my suitcase was just too high. But we loved our morning here, so many things to look at and try. Also, the local farmers didn't seem to care that we were sampling everything without buying too much. We bought where we could, but again, we couldn't take home that much, but we bought what we could.
