Didn't stay the night but went out to dinner with friends last night and was pretty impressed. The place is very proper and the food was excellent. They have a whiskey barrel dark beer that is really tasty and tons of steak to choose from. I ate the boneless rib eye myself and it was pretty damn good and so was the house salad. They have an ice cube orb maker for your drinks also which was pretty cool.

The Nines is a bit expensive but we had a good deal. Room was very comfortable but quite small. According to the website the average room should be bigger so maybe we were unlucky. Still good quality bed and allover comfortable. Bit strange entrance, not hotel like. Urban Farmer is nice if you like steak, rest is limited. Breakfast is good. Departures lounge on topfloor is very nice, good drinks and all kind of small tasty dishes, most of the time very busy.
Convenient parking nearby in public parking garage, not too expensive.

My husband and I love coming here on special occasions to stay overnight in downtown Portland. The location is unbeatable and the hotel (renovated from an old regional department store) somehow carries off a mix of old-world charm with a modern, hip feel, particularly in the common areas. Urban Farmer is a tad overpriced, but really enjoyable for happy hour or lunch. The food is scrumptious and I love the farm-to-table concept, using fresh, local ingredients. Departure Lounge on the top floor never lets me down - wonderful food every time! We like to go here for either happy hour/drinks or dinner. In the summer, come early to try to grab a spot on one of the outside patios. The view over town and of Mt. Hood are stupendous.

Rooms facing the Atrium can be noisy, so pay extra if you can to upgrade your room to a higher floor that faces outside. Corner rooms are the bomb.

Given we live nearby, we have the luxury of visiting the restaurants regularly. And we do sometimes stay in the Westin instead when we want to stay overnight. But we will definitely keep coming back to the Nines!

This hotel is a destination experience, in itself. From unparalleled service to the most amazing rooms in the United States, this hotel exceeds your expectations of a luxury hotel. The staff is genuinely friendly, while perfectly professional. They compare favorably to a Ritz-Carlton staff -- anticipating and exceeding your needs. The decor of the hotel is unparalleled in amazing tones and modern chic. The rooms are spacious and modern. Highly recommend utilizing the Club Level. The Urban Farmer is one of the best in Portland, which is quite impressive. Utilize the staff for dining and shopping recommendations - and elite treatment. Amazing experience from start to finish. The best "turn=down" service of any luxury hotel I've experienced.

Room Tip: Go Club Level and enjoy the Club Room with exotic drinks and very good complementary food at dinner...

This is a top notch hotel. Service and the room itself were excellent. There was a very modern look to the entire place. The location was perfect for central Portland. We had a delicous breakfast at the Urban Farmer restaurant in the hotel, and enjoyed a great balcony view and drinks at the Depature Lounge on the top floor.

The Nines is relatively a luxury, boutiquey hotel in downtown Portland, right near Pioneer Square. It is built within a former high end retailer and has a fashion theme, but until you learn that some of the touches seem odd.

It is a beautiful hotel, nice amenities but some stuff seem like they are 'trying' to be hip, as opposed to being hip. Service was uneven, for a high end joint. Great rooftop bar!

The Nines wins for location. Close to shopping, the Max, the waterfront...nothing better. Departure, the upstairs bar offers a great view and good food. Urban Farmer has a solid breakfast. The lobby area is very cool looking, yet comfortable.

I have stayed here before and the staff has not impressed me. This time the staff was great. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The housekeeper on our floor was friendly and our turn down service was a delight. The Bell Staff were welcoming and pleasant.

The bed and furnishings are nice, the bathroom is beautiful, but the rooms are all on the smaller side, unless you get two beds. We faced out to the street last time and our room was very quiet. This time we faced in to the atrium and our room was loud - we could hear people downstairs at Urban Farmer and the music they were playing could clearly be heard in our room on the 11th floor. Also, we didn't have a top sheet on our bed, only the duvet, which I thought this was very strange. I was able to get one brought up, but no one could tell me if it was a mistake or normal practice.

The hotel hallways and rooms are beginning to show a lot of wear. There were black marks on the hallway walls, as well as litle chunks of plaster missing. Our room had marks and dents in the walls, the furniture was starting to show wear and the carpets were starting to show some age. Nothing horrible, but given the rating and rates for the hotel I was surprised at their lack of spend on maintenance/upkeep.

The stay was nice, but I prefer The Heathman at the same price, or for a little more. The Westin, which is 2 blocks away is also a great option. I would say that The Nines and the Monaco at tied for 3rd in my book.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing out to the street to avoid the noise coming from the bar at Urban Farmer and t...
