“Lovely stay”
Reviewed October 26, 2011

Innkeeper Steve greeted us with a warm invitation to enjoy their elegantly beautiful Victorian home in the historic Irvington area, and provided us with a wonderful overview of the sights to see in the Portland area along with necessary public transportation details. We stayed in the most delightful Victorian Garden Apartment with complete kitchen and laundry facilities for our personal use. Upon coming into the inn's kitchen for our morning coffee (breakfast is available if requested and looked lovely!), we had the pleasure of very pleasant conversation with Russ and the lovely woman in charge of breakfast. The combination of beauty, elegance, decor, cleanliness, and friendliness makes me wish there was a rating far above the 5 available here. Thank you, Lion and the Rose, for this most fabulous weekend - we will return as soon as we possibly can!!!!

My husband and I just stayed at L & R for two nights in the Garden Room. The room was large with a very comfortable, king bed. The bathroom was also large with a lovely antique clawfoot tub. All sorts of extras were included such as bubble bath, afternoon sweets, and about 50 varieties of tea. You can choose to have the breakfast or skip it. Since it was October, they breakfast was a little abbreviated, but there were still a number of options. The inkeepers were very thoughtful and provided us with maps of the neighborhood, and downtown Portland with points of interest. If we return to Portland, we will definitely stay at the Lion and the Rose again!

Whether you're the King of the Jungle or a VGLDSW (very good looking damn smart woman), you'll love the royal treatment at The Lion & The Rose Victorian B&B. I had the pleasure of staying in the Lavonna Room -- bright, airy, charming & inviting. A group of us gal-pals had a girlfriends' weekend in Portland & we enjoyed having wine & chatting in the turret sitting area off the Lavonna bedroom, unwinding after our flights. Each of us have stayed at a number of B&Bs & we all agreed, this was an extraordinary experience, from the deliciously-prepared breakfast (featuring fresh local products & fresh picked herbs from the garden) to the luxe sheets & bath products to their extensive knowledge of the history of this magnificent home & their spot-on recommendations on how to best enjoy their lovely city. This is so much more than "a nice play to stay" -- it's a royal experience!

Room Tip: If you're a family, they have a suite (complete w/small kitchen) that sleeps 6. If you'd ra...

Hahaha, you are a comedian! One of the owners of Portland's Lion and Rose Victorian B&B knows how to charm his guests. Since he looks like the Lion, his partner must be the Rose. Meanwhile, we have finally closed our mouths which had been open in awe of this beautiful place. The outside, the inside, atmosphere, everything takes you back in time to the start of the 20th century when this historical place was built.

What is not old fashioned about the Lion and the Rose is the way the place is run by the owners. With eye for detail rooms and breakfast live up to modern day standards. Info on Portland's interesting sites and restaurants has been transformed into a short video with undercooled crisp narrating full of humor which reveals who is the real comedian in the house.

The house in itself was amazing, to think we were staying in such a beautiful home made it special. The decor inside and out was very well done, and the room decor in the Lavonna room in which we stayed made us feel so much at home. The Lavonna room has a little turret sitting room which was lovely in the mornings to sit and relax in. Steve and Dusty have an absolute feel for treating teir guests like special people and make every effort to make your stay welcoming and wonderful. We are definitely going back as soon as we can to stay again. The location is also great in it is so close to shopping, transportation, and some of the best tasting food and microbrews around. Finally, a walk around the local neighborhood is a must if you love beautiful architecture as the homes in the Irvington District are quite remarkable.

Room Tip: The Lavonna Room was bright, warm, and amazing to stay in.

We stayed one night at Lion and Rose on our way north. The inn is lovely and very nicely decorated. The beds and linen were very comfortable, as was the room in general. We stayed in the largest room which had lots of windows and so was very light and beautiful. It had the tiniest bathrooms, built from former closets, but it worked fine because there were 2, one with a sink and toilet and the other with a (tiny) sink and shower.

The only downside of this room was the city noise (we like to open the windows at night). It was a combination of cars, buses, and people yelling. If you like quiet, choose an inside room.

The staff was friendly. They answered the phone to take our last minute reservations, made from my cell phone as we were driving into Portland. They also gave us a good set of restaurant suggestions, and we appreciated that.

The walk to the Max transit was about 10 minutes, fine if you have the time. Returning at night after dinner we opted for a cab (you have to be careful about which streetcar lines stop running at ~9:30), about $14 plus tip from the main downtown area.

The breakfast was good.

We would return.

Room Tip: Choose an inside room for a quieter stay.
