Big Screen TV

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 23, 2007
Hotel located just off Highway in industrial area. Beds comfy, great flat screen wall mounted TV but clostraphobic bathroom.
Single sink located outside of bath but bath/toilet area is small and whenever the light is turned on, it automatically also turns on a loud vent fan. Consequently everytime you or an adjoining room guest is using that, you hear the fan. Friendly staff and upgraded continental breakfast (boiled eggs, waffles, cheeses).
Would recommend if you don't mind the noise.

We ended up having to check in to the Silver Cloud Inn a night early after a bad thunderstorm threatened our overnight camping plans. The staff was super friendly and was able to get us into a room for the night we needed, their only availability was a king jacuzzi suite which they offered me at the price i was getting a regular king room at. The room was imaculately clean, comfortable, and spacious. The desk staff offered great dining suggestions and even gave us a coupon for a free appetizer for a nearby brewery restaurant which we took advantage of for lunch. It was my birthday and we wanted to have a nice dinner, they recommended Marina Fish House, which was to die for. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. The location was great, a easy walk to the streetcar to get to downtown shopping, a quick drive to the japanese gardens, and if you're looking to take a nice stroll, head up 23rd. There are tons of boutique shops and quaint restaurants.

When searching for a hotel for a weekend in Portland, we first contacted our friends. All the hotels they suggested were sold out, so I turned to Trip Advisor (as usual) and found the Silver Cloud Inn.
We discovered a reasonably-priced room close to everything in downtown. Since Portland isn't exactly a large city, this hotel was no more than 15 minutes from anything we wanted to do anywhere in the city.
The room was HUGE, clean and comfortable. The large LCD TV and windows that actually opened were a nice bonus. Our room has a jacuzzi tub as well which we used the first night of our stay. Two complaints about the jacuzzi rooms though...1) No instructions for where the controls were or how to work the complicated tub stopper. Took us almost 15 minutes to sort both out and we were quite frustrated by the time we got going 2) When the people in the room above used their tub, the noise was loud enough to wake us each time they filled it and ran the jets. Next time, I would choose a non-jacuzzi room to ensure better sleep.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They were also knowledgeable about local dining and attractions. The hotel itself was in a residential neighborhood and very secluded and quiet. Only other complaint we had was the parking. The lot was often full and we had to resort to street parking a few times during our stay.
Overall, the hotel met our needs for a weekend away visiting friends and we'd easily stay here or at any other Silver Cloud property in the future.

We wanted to stay close to downtown but not pay downtown hotel prices. The Silver Cloud Inn Downtown is not downtown, but is located on the edge of a charming neighborhood over a mile from downtown, and a couple blocks from a freeway. The neighborhood has lots of cute restaurants and shops, as well as nice, old houses (many Craftsmens). There is a park and playground four blocks from the hotel, so it's a good area for families with young children. The room was quite large and well furnished including a 42" plasma TV, refrigerator, and microwave. A free parking garage is attached to the hotel. The free continental breakfast was good, but the breakfast area was too small for the number of guests the days we were there, possibly because of the large number of conventioneers staying at the hotel. At slightly over $100/night, it was still a good deal. This is one of the better midprice chains.

We stayed at the Silver Cloud Inn in Portland for 5 days at the end of June/beginning of July. As other reviewers stated, there were little "blips" in service but nothing horribly outstanding.

They were accomodating when we arrived early. The room was clean and the kids enjoyed the plasma tv. The Inn is upgrading to in-room wireless connections but while we were there, we had to ask for an in-room connector cable for our laptop. It was free-of-charge so that was nice. (There is also a computer located in the lobby for guest use.) Parking is also free! As for breakfast (included), it included make-yourself-waffles, the standard boiled eggs, cereals, pastries, etc. Not bad at all.

The downside? My daughter utilized the toiletries and those were not replaced on two occasions. Area looks a bit sketchy but we walked to the shops, dinner, etc. and felt very safe.

A great bistro, Pastini Pastaria, is just a couple blocks away on the corner of NW 23rd and Quimby.

Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at the Silver Cloud in July during a weekend trip to Portland with a friend who had never visited and wanted to check out the great dining and tax free shopping. The Silver Cloud was an affordable and convenient place to stage our time in Portland.

The Silver Cloud is a chain of hotels so if you come expect bland, predictable, but very satisfactory service and accommodations. The Silver Cloud location in Portland was small, tidy, and clean, conveniently located in Northwest Portland's Nob Hill neighborhood, very close to great restaurants, cafes, and shopping. The hotel was easy to get to from the freeway, had ample covered parking, and the staff was professional and friendly, and offered us a streetmap of the neighborhood with a list of restaurants and shops. The hotel offers a free continental breakfast in a rather cramped dining and serving area, but I did not avail myself of the food...I chose this hotel because it is in a quiet, convenient location near my favorite part of Portland. It's just a few blocks' walk from the thriving commercial and dining district on 21st/23rd Avenue. The hotel is on the fringe of Nob Hill neighborhood where it meets some industrial sections, which are only a minor eyesore compared with the charming areas south and west of the hotel.

The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean and utilitarian, housekeeping was great. The hotel was also quiet (there was a family with small children staying immediately next door and I barely heard them at all). My only complaint is that the room had a strange smell (not unpleasant, just odd), I think it might have been a smell from the room's air conditioner. Also, if you have an urge to drink a soda from the hotel's drink machine, the cost is $1.25 for a can of diet Coke; save yourself some money and bring your own (the hotel rooms have mini-fridges). Other than that, a great place to stay if you are looking for no-frills accommodations for a good price in a fun part of town.
