We stayed 5 nights in the hotel.
The location was just great, just a few blocks away from 23rd street, so you can reach all nice restaurants as well as shops within walking distance. Also the pearl district is not really far.
The rooms have a reasonable size and some nice details such as flatscreen an aveda bath items.
Staff is friendly and professional.

This is not a nice trendy beautique hotels.

The breakfast is pretty down to earth, you are close to the highway. It looks like a lot of other hotels.

If you are looking for a hotel to spend your honeymoon: Better choose something else.

If you want to walk and shop all the day: Stay here!

On a recent road trip from the San Francisco bay area, 4 of us spent one night at the Silver Cloud Inn. It is very well located -- just far enough from the center of the city to be more reasonably priced than downtown hotels, but close enough that we were in the midst of things in 10 minutes. The hotel is just a few blocks from the trendy shops and restaurants of NW23rd Street. We booked two rooms, one of which was to be a wheelchair accessible room. The person who checked us in, Lindsay, was polite, helpful, friendly, and professional, giving us a positive impression of the hotel from the moment we arrived. Both rooms were spacious and nicely decorated, with comfortable beds and flat-screen TVs. The room described as "wheelchair accessible" really was wheelchair accessible (roll-in shower, wide doorways, etc.). The breakfast, included in the price of the room, was generous and nicely presented, with helpful staff replenishing items as they got low. (No having to chase down someone to refill the coffee!) Best of all, since we were one week into a two-week road trip, there were washers and dryers available for guests -- at no cost!

The Silver Cloud is a wonderful value. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern. Very nice large HD flat screen tv's, refrigerator and microwave in every room, and comfortable beds. The hotel is well run and is well staffed. Staff is polite and helpful. the breakfast is excellent...make your own waffles, all kinds of breads and pastries, fruit, juice, hard boiled eggs, a variety of cereals, cheese, etc. Great location for walking to excellent restaurants. Don't miss a great Italian restaurant.
..Serratto on 21st Street. Dinner is excellent...but the real deal is happy hour seven days a week from 4:30- 6PM...$4 wine, incredible bar menu!

I stayed here with my girlfriend (now wife) while in OR for a week. The proximity to the great Nob Hill area made it such an enjoyable stay. We walked for hours around Nob Hill and topped it off with some great beers at one of the local breweries. If you're looking for a value priced hotel with fairly decent rooms near Nob Hill, this is your place. I would stay here again anytime I'm in Portland (which is a great city).

As former residents of Portland, my wife and I are frequent visitors to the city. the Silver Cloud Inn has been one of our favorite destinations in the past. As many reviews here have noted, the location is great for Portland exploration and the free parking is especially handy for leaving the car and using Portland's excellent public transit.

On our most recent visit, we opted to try one of the Silver Cloud's King Jacuzzi rooms. I don't know if all these rooms are on the same floors or what but unless you want to hear the plumbing run as other guests fill their tubs, I'd avoid at least these rooms in the hotel. It didn't help that one guest opted to take a jacuzzi at 2A in the morning, waking us from a sound sleep with the noise of a filling tub that was so loud it sounded like it was in our own room and then more than 30 minutes of listening to the jets from the same tub going off. This was a definite disappointment as hearing water running through pipes behind the headboard isn't my idea of a comfortable night's sleep.

Our room was on the hotel's third floor and all this noise came from the room above me. It reminded me of college days in cheap student housing where one had to put up with all the noise from neighbors. This was definitely not what I was looking for.

To give this hotel credit, the location is good, rooms clean and relatively spacious. But with walls that are paper thin, expect to have to possibly put up with the noise of other guests and hotel plumbing at levels that may make sleep a challenge.

For what it is worth, having read reviews here, I did try and talk to the manager when checking out. The night noise we experienced was on our second of a two night stay. I was somewhat rudely told that no manager was available but I could call back tomorrow.

Thank you for the review of your recent stay. I was very sorry to hear about the noise issues. This has started discussions about our jacuzzi rooms to upper management.
As you know from previous stays, we strive to excel in guest service. I appreciate getting feedback from guests while they are at the hotel and I am sorry that a manager was not here that morning. We have since put procedures in place to make sure any guest challenge is followed up on.
Thank you for your time and we hope you will come back and give us another try.

We stayed at Silver Cloud this past President's Day weekend. It's a nice hotel on the outskirts of the Nob Hill neighborhood. That's one of it's biggest plusses. You're a short bus ride or a multiple block walk to the heart of Nob Hill, by far Portland's neighborhood with the most character. Lots of good restaurants and shopping within the hotel's radius.

That being said the hotel itself was just ok. The staff was friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was decent with pretty basic options such as waffles and cereal. The room was standard. Ours was facing the street so it was fairly noisy since the front of the hotel is on the main drag to the highway. On top of that the noise from the shower above was pretty loud as well. So if you're a light sleeper this may not be the best choice for you. However, if you are looking for a reasonable base for your side trips to downtown Portland, Nob Hill and the Pearl District and a little noise doesn't bother you this is the place.

We stayed 3 nights at the Silver Cloud and was able to explore much of Portland city without needing to use the car. It is a 10 minute brisk walk to the tram station on 23rd Ave followed by a short ride into the city. The downside to the Silver Cloud is that it is located in the far northern end of 23rd Ave and faces the industrial area which is quiet at night.

The many pluses are its reasonable pricing, extremely clean rooms, new room furniture, free laundromat, free parking, decent breakfast, close proximity to the great restaurants, cafes and boutiques of 23rd Ave and closeby the Pearl District. I strongly recommended the Silver Cloud.
