We stayed here originally because it was walking distance from a restaurant we wanted to go to and it ended up being the star of the show. 6 bars and quaint rooms and if one of your group ius not quite done with a drink before going to the next watering hole, they just take it with them. all in a single building Kennedy school is almost like disneyland for grownups. The boiler room is a three story pub style bar, the honors room bar is refined and casual, or you can get sent to detention and smoke a cigar. (not me) my only issue with the whole place was the sounds that go bump in the night andnthe really wierd dreams both Peg and I had while in our room. I highly recommend a stay here if you like excellent cocktails and varied atmosphere. for breakfast, we at at the courtyard restaurant and the atmosphere was casual and irreverently humorous. The food was good the portions big enough Peg and I could have shared one breakfast.

Room Tip: If you are superstitious, stay in the english wing. the old school rooms were very comfortable but both my wife and I had really wierd dreams the night we stayed there. part of the charm, I did not feel awkward at all about it. the bars open at 5 and making the rounds was a lot of fun.

I was in town for business and opted to stay at the Kennedy School. My room was quaint and decorated with frogs and a poster titled "A Confederate General from Big Sur". The bathroom was large with modern fixtures set in vintage cabinetry. I spent the evening sipping wine and having dinner while watching a first run movie in the converted auditorium. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. I really enjoyed my stay.

We stayed here three separate times, each in a different part of the building. The older section has spacious rooms, and more character. The newer wing has better beds. With all the activities including free movies, soaking pools, multiple bars and restaurants it's easy to enjoy the stay. Very friendly staff who seem genuinely proud to work there. Stunning artwork and attention to detail. It's not a luxury hotel, and reflects the heart of Portland.

Room Tip: Book early and ask for a room that overlooks the garden.

I stayed in a room with a quote from the wind in the willows painted on the walls, old chalk boards that collapsed into the wall with closets behind. No TV, which was actually a relief. The soaking pool is awesome. French toast at the restaurant was delicicious. Also, sit outside by the fire at night-- great fire pit.

What can I say. This is a very hip location in the art district (Alberta Street) or Portland Oregon. What a cool idea. Take an old elementary school built in 1915 and convert it into a hotel, live music venue, and neighborhood/pub scene and then add a big, hot "soaking pool"! It does not get much better than this. Live music every night that ranges the gamut but is enjoyable for all (the nights we were there it was rockabilly). Great intimate bars (the detention bar and the honor bar). You can maybe get 15 people in these, and great drinks and bartenders! The restaurant is so, so, but convenient. Lots of people with small kids, but all well behaved and really a multigenerational comfortable place to stay. Staff at the front desk are VERY hip with great tattoos and piercings. Makes you feel like you have entered a Buhddist punk retreat. The hotel staff are nice and generally young gen xers in jeans and also very hip. Rooms are comfortable with HUGE windows (think how big the windows would be in a school built just at the age of electricity. No TVs in the rooms, but blackboards from the old school rooms and other patrons leave messages and drawings for you. Really a fun place and near the best food and craft/art in Portland.
