“Affordable Elegance at the Hotel DeLuxe”
Reviewed October 13, 2009

Thank you, TripAdvisor, for helping us find this gem! Historic charm, impeccable service, and modern amenities - at a prime location, for a reasonable rate!! Does it get any better?

We had an excellent weekend at the Hotel DeLuxe. The location is perfect. We did not have a car - didn't need one! We rode the light rail (MAX) from the airport -very inexpensive and convenient. We had no difficulty getting around town, as Portland is a very walkable city. We did use public transit quite a lot, also - which is free in the downtown area. We were not bothered by homeless people. We felt the area was relatively clean and safe for a large city.

The Hotel deLuxe is lovely. The decor is elegant, but not overdone, and the staff is outstanding. After reviewing the Hotel's website, we booked directly and were able to get a very reasonable rate. It was worth every cent! We stayed in a spacious and comfortable King deLuxe. The room was tastefully appointed and perfect for our anniversary celebration.

We enjoyed interesting cocktails in the Driftwood Lounge and had a nice breakfast at Gracie's.

We would highly recommend the deLuxe. It was one of the nicest boutique hotels we have experienced.

Important note!! Powell's is just a few blocks away - don't miss it!

Hotel deLuxe was beautiful. The staff, from the Doormen to the Desk Staff were all friendly. They offered good advice on dining and shopping. The room was clean, and beautiful.

We had a great stay at Hotel DeLuxe. The hotel is between downtown Portland and Washington Park. It was a 10 minute walk to NW 23rd. I took a morning run down to Pioneer Square and then did the loop around the river. We like to walk everywhere and we certainly did! At night we were walking back from dinner at Lucy's Table on NW 21st and stopped to peer through the fence at PGE Park to watch a pro-soccer game. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the PGE Park.

Our car was parked by the hotel. There was a free valet parking special at the time.

I had a waffle for breakfast in their restaurant and it was great! The bed was very comfortable and I loved the iPod friendly radio. My husband enjoyed the big screen TV to watch in bed while I went for a run. There were Aveda products in the bathroom and cozy bathrobes in the closet.

I would stay here every time I visit Portland. I don't think the rooms were that small like some other reviewers stated. Of course it wasn't big like a family suite at a brand name hotel but this is a boutique type hotel that kept it's historical charm. I've stayed in NYC several times and I could actually fit around the bed in our Hotel DeLuxe room. Also, I saw other reviewers complain about homeless people. Yeah maybe a couple at night around the corner but it isn't like they are lurking on the front step. You are downtown in a big city....those people live there!!!!

I loved this hotel!

This hotel has a swanky old Hollywood style. The service staff was more than friendly and they went out of their way to make you happy. They even have a pillow menu which lets you pick any pillow your heart desires for your stay. The only thing I would mention is the parking fee was $25 dollar per night and they do not have a sign or anything telling you that when you valet...

Hotel Deluxe was a gem to find and we are thrilled with this find. My wife and I took a trip on the train down from Seattle and had a wonderful weekend. First, the train station is about a mile from the hotel. We grabbed a cab and 5 mintues and $7 later we were at the front door being greeting by a friendly doorman. The front desk staff were happy and friendly and accomodating. They provided a map and directions for good food, drinks, and a spot to catch a soccer game.

The room was cozy, clean, and tastefully done. It wasn't real big but that was ok. There was an abundant amount of pillows, in all styles, to choose from. It was great having wifi and a docking station for the iPod, too.

We were close enough to walk around town for drinks and great food with friends. The next day we walked to 23rd and Pearl for shopping and food. There is so much along 23rd to choose from. We wandered back down along Burnside for a Bloody Mary and free pool at Ringler's. A couple more blocks to Powell's book store - a must see in Portland. Finally another 1/2 mile to the train station. Though the homeless population is aggressive and apparent, we never felt uncomfortable walking through the neighborhoods and downtown.

The nostalgic movie theme was interesting and fun to look at.

The trip was great. The hotel, the staff, and the amenities were outstanding. Here is to the next trip!!

We live locally and wanted to just get away for the night.. We arrived at the hotel and there was a wedding party gathered in the lobby, and we were told that the restaurant was closed, but the bar was open serving food and happy hour, so no biggie.. We had told them that it was our anniversary so we had been upgraded to a larger room, which was wonderful. The bed was super comfortable and my boyfriend "ordered" a body pillow... He loved it...Room had ipod docking station, we brough ours but if you didn't, they had ipods to loan you. Happy hour at 9pm was very crowded, but we got a table quickly, had great food and drinks and chatted with the nice couple next to us. Bar is very swanky and cool. Room was very quite (did not face the MAX train). We had a great breakfast in the restaurant (bread pudding french toast..yum). Our rate included internet and parking which was nice. Would stay here again...

This was my second stay at the deLuxe. Staff were very welcoming, attentive and helpful. My room was a spacious corner room on an upper floor with two walls of windows and nice views of Portland. A very comfy bed and all the usual amenities met my creature comfort needs. The hotel a just a little off the beaten path downtown but everything is within walking distance.

Klaudio - thank you for a lovely stay.
