this is a great hotel within walking distance to the "pearl District". It's wonderful staff, comfy rooms and convenient location made our recent trip to Portland OR very enjoyable.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Deluxe for my birthday. We purchased a special deal via Google Offers a few months ago and decided to use it for my special day. It always feels like a gamble to use a special offer at a Hotel or Restaurant. I can't help but wonder if they will stick us in a sub-par room or give us a lesser quality meal. I was so happy to find that neither were the case with the Hotel Deluxe or their restaurant, Gracie's.

The goodness all started at check-in. We were coming from out of town, and we were ahead of schedule. I called to ask if we could check in early and they said yes! We got there on a Friday at 3 and were in our room at 3:10. The king deluxe room was small for sure, but it was elegantly appointed and had everything that we could possibly need. A bottle of wine was included in our deal, and the bottle they had waiting for us was superb...a local Pinot Noir from a reputable winery (not a mass produced supermarket find). The bed was comfy, the linens were crisp and pillow options abundant. Jazz music was playing on the radio when we entered. Lovely. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean.

We opted for happy hour at the Driftwood Room downstairs. It was a very special place and we will come visit for happy hour again. It was reminiscent of a 1950's lounge...dark, curved upholstered seating along the outside of the room, forming small intimate tables along the way. The happy hour offerings were abundant and inexpensive. The cocktails were fun and interesting. I had the "rose colored glasses", a champagne based cocktail, and mac-n-cheese and crab/shrimp cake. All were very good.

We walked downtown to Pioneer Place for shopping later in the evening, stopping at St. Cupcake on the way for dessert! It was a nice walk to downtown, only about 6 blocks. Being set back from downtown by those few blocks made all the difference in the world, as far as noise is concerned. On a Friday night we were not disturbed by any street noise. Not the case with the places we've stayed on Broadway or closer to Pioneer Place.

For breakfast the next morning we ate at Gracie's. The smoked salmon hash and the ham and cheese omelette were much better than average. Portions were generous, and the meats were of the highest quality. The ham was off the bone and in large chunks and the salmon is cold smoked in their kitchen. The potato medley included yukon golds, sweet potatoes and purple potatoes and were perfectly seasoned...and I normally wouldn't comment on potatoes!

The service at the Hotel Deluxe, from the valet (Brandon) to the front desk staff to the wait staff at the bar and the restaurant were all incredibly friendly and warm. NOT pretentious at all. We enjoyed our time and like the title of the review says...We will be back.

The staff was friendly & bent over backwards for all our needs. Loved the old holly wood feel. The driftwood lounge was great for dinner & drinks. The room was lovely & quiet & the bed was excellent. Best sleep of our vacation. we had breakfast in Gracie 's. Service & food excellent. We will stay there again. Well worth it.

My husband and I recently arrived in Portland in the early evening and found the deLuxe Hotel on the web. What a nice surprise. Incredibly helpful staff and a wonderfully cozy room.
We enjoyed a great dinner downstairs in the bar - the food was really delicious. We will definitely be returning here for another stay. There was valet parking and downtown is just a few walkable blocks away. We loved it at the deLuxe!

Stayed here for a long weekend to attend a wedding. Centrally located and easy to walk around the city. Hotel staff can get you anywhere you want to go. The hotel restaurant and bar are both very nice. Overall, you can't go wrong.

We stayed at the Hotel DeLuxe on the last leg of our Oregon honeymoon. We have previously stayed in various hotels in Portland on different trips (i.e. Larkspur & Benson). I had read the reviews on Trip Advisor of the great stay others had at Hotel DeLuxe and expected a great stay.

The hotel is not right downtown but it is well situated near the Pearl District and near some neat stores (ie. Canoe) and food carts. Portland is quite walkable so it wasnt a huge problem. I also noticed that there was a pedicab at the front door most evenings for guests if they wanted to use that method of transportation.

The decor of the lobby is beautiful. Loved the opulant old hollywood feel of the hotel. The front staff was professional and courteous. They helped us to get reservations for a couple of restaurants which was much appreciated as it was the weekend.

The Driftwood Bar looked very chic! I would have loved to have a drink there. Next time perhaps.

The one thing that I was a dissapointed with was the size of their rooms. We had a Deluxe Queen which was very tight. There was not much room to sit and relax other than lie on the bed. The bathroom was also quite tight. Only one person could fit in that room at a time. Not much room for storage of toiletries either. Granted we did not spend much time in our hotel room but it would be nice not to be so cramped. I would recommend paying a little bit more and staying in one of the larger rooms.

Other good things at the hotel included free wi-fi, pillow menu and the very comfy bed.

All in all it was a good experience service and ambiance wise but their regular room is very small which is why my overall rating is just average.

If you've never been to Portland, the Hotel deLuxe, by all measure, is an excellent choice. No, it's not right downtown but within easy walking distance. All that is a good thing if you prefer a little serenity around your place of repose and not an ocean of tattooed panhandlers. Portland is very different even for someone who has lived in San Francisco. The people are nice, walking at night is safe, but the vibe is less hipster and more sad wannabe hipster. The deLuxe location lets you sample the waters and then retreat to a comfortable and very service-oriented hotel. If you don't need to rent a car, don't. The Metro stops less than a 100 feet from the hotel and can take you right to the airport. Valet parking is $25 a day with the lot directly across from the hotel. The room was large, the bed very comfortable and, as others have indicated, the elevators run at warp speed.
