Review of Hotel Deluxe
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 29, 2007
We loved out two night stay here. Starting from the valet parking to the upgrade at check in, this was a special hotel. The rooms are well decorated and coming in from London they seemed spacious to us. We love the art deco era and have been thinking of buying a copy of the lamps at Restoration Hardware.

I'm not sure what all the 5 star reviews are about. I feel like they were talking about a different hotel.

This is a very average hotel with very average service.

I agree with the previous review that it seems like a hotel "wearing too much makeup" trying to be something its not. It seems like they took an old hotel with thin walls that is not in the middle of any of Portland's best spots, slapped some new paint on the old walls, cleaned up the bathroom a bit and advertise it as a hip boutique hotel.

Also, at various times, our room had an absolutely awful sewer smell! The smell would come and go.

Sorry, I just didn't get it. I generally would prefer a nice boutique hotel, such as the Hotel Monacos, but I preferred the Portland Westin to this.

what a perfect little boutique hotel; quiet, elegant small like its european sisters, but stylish, service minded and clean as some others are not! we stayed at the Hotel Deluxe for just 2 nites, but we wished we could stay longer - it's centrally located, with parking across the street (so you don't have to wait 20 minutes for the valet). From the start, an efficient young staff greets you in a soaring lobby, with bar and restaurant waiting just off in the wings. rooms in boutique hotels are just a whisk away (unlike in giant complexes where you wish for a golf cart to drive you to your accomodation). Our room was small but elegant, with great sheets and inviting decor (shades of white, silver, oyster and chartreuse for maximum impact)...again, the spaces are small, but clean and well manicured. We mixed a few gin & tonics and swept ourselves into the vision - very very fine.
ps: we did hate paying for wireless : BOO let's get really modern and make technology accessible!

When I have vacation time, nowhere in particular that I want to see, and a little money to spend, I go to Portland just for the pleasure of staying at this wonderfully lovely hotel. The first time I went, when it was still the Hotel Mallory, I was with a girlfriend and they gave us a killer suite. The next time, I was solo, and had a much smaller room, but still had a wonderful visit. It is hard to chose the best feature of the hotel -- its bar, its restaurant, the comfort of its rooms, its friendly staff, that it is walking distance from the ballpark or that the trolley runs right by the front door so you can go sample all those wonderful Portland microbrews and still find your way back to the hotel!

I loved this hotel. I was here for three nights as a single (female)traveler) on business. The staff is warm and accomodating.Even the housekeepers smile and greet you. I found the customer service excellent as well as the quality of the accomodations and food in the restaurant.

I travel to Europe frequently and I found the touches as well as the attention to detail refreshing.

This is an intimate, very well-run hotel.
I would welcome staying here again.

I simply loved this hotel. It has character and charm.

From the time we stepped through the front doors to the moment we caught the cab to the airport- we were delighted.

I own a private concierge company and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to ANY of my clients travelling to Portland or any friends/family.

The staff was amazing.
The "Make It So" button is amazing- we needed packing tape, a couple of bowls and spoons- all delivered in 5 minutes! Really liked the daily info sheet of Portland events.

Loved the ipod docking station and the pillow menu. I was recovering from a surgery and needed a few more pillows on Saturday night- the body pillow was at our door in a flash.

The food at the restaurant (we had sunday brunch) was great and the service prompt and friendly.

You HAVE to visit every floor- to see all the different directors highlighted from the golden era of movies.

The room was wonderfully decorated. The only drawback- not alot of room/counter space for toiletries. Also- it would be nice to have a computer network to connect into, in the room. We did not have any real view to speak of- but we weren't there often- we went wondering around Portland for the views.

No noise issues.

The location is really perfect. Not quite right downtown- a quick jaunt. Just a 5 minute walk to Powells and 10 minutes into Pearl and Nob hill districts (the trendy areas and boutique shopping).

An absolute lovely place.
