Wonderful stay at the DeLuxe

Review of Hotel Deluxe
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 27, 2007
I loved this hotel. I was here for three nights as a single (female)traveler) on business. The staff is warm and accomodating.Even the housekeepers smile and greet you. I found the customer service excellent as well as the quality of the accomodations and food in the restaurant.

I travel to Europe frequently and I found the touches as well as the attention to detail refreshing.

This is an intimate, very well-run hotel.
I would welcome staying here again.

I simply loved this hotel. It has character and charm.

From the time we stepped through the front doors to the moment we caught the cab to the airport- we were delighted.

I own a private concierge company and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to ANY of my clients travelling to Portland or any friends/family.

The staff was amazing.
The "Make It So" button is amazing- we needed packing tape, a couple of bowls and spoons- all delivered in 5 minutes! Really liked the daily info sheet of Portland events.

Loved the ipod docking station and the pillow menu. I was recovering from a surgery and needed a few more pillows on Saturday night- the body pillow was at our door in a flash.

The food at the restaurant (we had sunday brunch) was great and the service prompt and friendly.

You HAVE to visit every floor- to see all the different directors highlighted from the golden era of movies.

The room was wonderfully decorated. The only drawback- not alot of room/counter space for toiletries. Also- it would be nice to have a computer network to connect into, in the room. We did not have any real view to speak of- but we weren't there often- we went wondering around Portland for the views.

No noise issues.

The location is really perfect. Not quite right downtown- a quick jaunt. Just a 5 minute walk to Powells and 10 minutes into Pearl and Nob hill districts (the trendy areas and boutique shopping).

An absolute lovely place.

We stayed one night at Hotel DeLuxe and everything about our stay was wonderful! We had a King Feature on the 3rd floor and enjoyed our room so much we didn't want to leave! I especially like how tasteful our room was, my wife loved the walk-in closet and iHome for her iPod. We loved the bathroom as it's rare to find hotels with tile incorporated and the king size bed was so comfortable and we loved how you can "order" your pillow off their pillow menu! it was great! The staff was very accomodating and very friendly and brunch at Gracies' was great! We highly recommend the Hotel deLuxe and are definitely coming back.

We truly rely on Tripadvisor reviews when booking our travel, and try to always write a review upon return.
The Hotel Deluxe exceeded our expectations!!
We booked two rooms..the closest they had to "adjoining". Rooms 201 and 202. There was a hall entry double door...that was only opened via our key, then a small hallway, and room 201 was on one side of the hall and 202 on the other.
We were travelling with two 9 year old girls...and although they think they're old enough for their own room, we didn't!! :)
This was a safe, comfortable way for all of us to have our own space. My husband and I were able to leave the doors propped opened, but still feel like we had our privacy.
The rooms were tiny, but the beds were amazingly comfortable!!
Room 202 had a nice street view, but 201 was somewhat dark, and looked out to the air conditioning units and the roof.
The girls didn't mind...and were just happy to have it all to themselves!
The staff, as previously mentioned, was incredibly accomodating!
Our girls LOVED Brandon...the valet. Super friendly...and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area.
We ate at the Elephant Deli (on 22nd street...a few blocks away), four times...and were only staing at the Deluxe 2 nights. Try it...you won't be sorry!!!!
We didn't eat at Gracie's, but did order room service that was excellent!! One night the girls ordered hot chocolate, and popcorn. The popcorn was seriously the best ever, and to their delight was delivered in a large metal...almost trash can size, bowl. I think we've ruined them...Not that we're planning any Motel 6 nights coming up, but our girls will expect standards consistent with what the Hotel Deluxe had to offer!!! :)
By the way...order a body pillow. They're deliciously comfortable, but order early, because they go quick.
Can't wait to come back....

The Hotel deLuxe (formerly known as the Mallory Hotel) was well recommended by Trip Advisor reviewers and my wife and I can only agree. The hotel has recently undergone extensive renovations, but the 1920s-30s style has been retained. Each floor has been given a theme from old black and white movies, which we found interesting. The hotel is at the edge of the central city zone (just beyond the tram fareless zone) and about a five minute walk to the principal Portland city streets. The Hillsbro tram passes on its inward journey to the city past the deLuxe.
The room we had was most comfortable although fairly small. The room and bathroom had been tastefully renovated but still retained much of its character. The bedside Ipod docker/radio was a welcome feature. We had drinks in the rather grand lobby one evening. In summary I recommend this hotel to Portland visitors who want comfort and a break from the modern skyscraper minimalist hotel that we all stay in far too frequently!
