My girlfriends and I were in Portland to attend a wedding. We wanted to stay together but were concerned about 4 of us getting ready for the wedding in 1 bathroom. SO...someone suggested Embassy Suites...and it was amazing! The building was built in 1912, the lobby looks like it came from directly from the 1900's but fresh!!
Check in was quick and professional. We reserved a 2 room King Suite, with a living room and 2 bathrooms, it was perfect! The rooms were tastefully decorated, the linens were very nice, bathrooms were newly remodeled. One of our rooms overlooked VooDoo Donuts which is open 24/7 and there was never an issue with noise. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel!

OH!! AND there is a happy hour in the Lower Lobby each day which serves wine & beer complimentary AND a full breakfast including an omelet station every morning!

Thank you for writing such a wonderful review about your recent stay in Portland with us here at the Embassy Suites Portland- Downtown.

Our hotel is perfect for those looking for a little more space than your traditional hotel accommodations. Being able to provide separate living areas from the bedroom makes it perfect for families or anyone else looking for space and privacy. This is especially true of our two bedroom, two bathroom suites!

Hopefully the next time you have a special occasion or need someplace to rest your head when visiting Portland you will think of us!

This is a beautiful hotel built around 1912. The sitting room was good sized with a large flat screen TV. The bedroom was a nice size also with a large flat screen TV. The kitchenette was perfect. The place was clean, comfortable, and had a view of downtown. They offer free happy hour with wine and beer. The free breakfast was really good with omlettes made to order.

There is an indoor pool that was clean and they had a fitness room that was small, but I used the treadmill and was pleased.

The location is close to the riverfront and great restaurants.

My husband and I stayed two nights at this hotel August 24-26, 2012. We love Embassy Suites, they have reliably excellent service, accomodations are outstanding, the Manager's Reception is primo and morning breakfast perfect to start the day with sightseeing. Our only slight dissappointment was the noise level at night. There were many persons yelling (partying) and homeless persons sleeping on the sidewalk. Despite that, our time at the hotel was outstanding.

Room Tip: Free Drinks and Breakfast with every reservation

You can become so accustomed to the modern hotel in North America that it is a bit of a shock to the system when you stay in a historic building in a city location.
The Embassy Suites in Portland is just that...and so long as you know this..and realise that the rooms and some of the furnishings are a bit older aswell....then there should be no problems. The lobby is spectacular (as mentioned) and the building itself has quite a history. Yes there are afew "vagrants" in the area but we found this to be the case in a lot of the city and it dosen't really change much unless you want to hang around the vicinity all day (which if you are on holiday..you won't be).

We recently stayed in Portland as a group of 4 (family and a friend) and we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. We upgraded to a two room suite (two bedrooms two bathrooms) which gave us ample space...and the hotel even provided a rollaway for my son (aged 4) so that he could sleep in one of the bedrooms with us..and leave the lounge area free in the evening for us to relax (rather than use the sofa bed).

Breakfast is as other reviews have said...the usual from an embassy suites...and to me..that means excellent. Good choice and good standard (the scrambled eggs with cheese had my son asking for more every day!). We used both the fitness and pool areas on this trip...both were fine..although I would say the pool is not really designed for "lane swimming" more of a play area with the kids I suppose...so if you are looking to swim for fitness....you might not get much of it in the pool.

Also as most reviews say...Voodoo doughnuts is just up the street (behind the hotel) and the one thing I can say is go early...during the day and into the night there was always a line up. We went at 830am to beat the queues! It was worth it though.

We loved our stay here..and would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the tower block modern hotel style. Staff and service were great for us...and it was a most welcoming place.

Room Tip: If you can afford the upgrade..the two room suite gives you LOTS of space for a family.

We've stayed at a number of Embassy Suites hotels and have come to love the bright, cheerful ambiance most of them provide. Visitors should understand this one is different. I generally love historic hotels and the lobby of the Downtown Portland Embassy Suites is rather grand but the other public rooms -- breakfast/happy hour room, fitness center and pool -- are all below ground and I found them a tad depressing. (A pretty fountain in one part of the breakfast room helps). Parking is also a problem. While a lot of Embassy Suites charge a pretty penny for parking, we've usually be able to find a free or cheap alternative nearby. Not so here. The hotel charges $30 per day for valet parking with in-and-out privileges, $18 for self-park (but no in-and-out). And most of the nearby lots were almost as high. Street parking around there is only available for 90 minutes from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. so this is not a place to bring a car.
All that said, the neighborhood is fine, the room was comfortable (great bed and they provided a rollaway for no extra charge), breakfasts live up to the usual ES standards and over all we had a lovely stay. Will we return to Embassy Suites Portland-Downtown the next time we visit our son at college? Probably not if we come by car but this would be a good option if we fly.

We stayed at this hotel during a family trip in August 2012 and stayed for three nights. The hotel is in a historic hotel so it does not have the typical Embassy Suites architecture and had some unique features- the pool and lobby are great examples. Our room was very spacious even for an Embassy Suites, and despite being on the 4th floor, we did not hear noise from the city below. The hotel was clean, and the hotel staff were very professional. As always, the breakfast and manager's reception were terrific! The kids loved the pool- one comment here is that the hotel should invest in a few more chairs/tables for the pool deck. Our room did not have a safe, which I prefer to have so this was a bit of a disappointment. The location is great- a 3 to 4 block walk to the light rail lines with easy access to OMSI, Washington Park, and other sights. It's about 4 blocks from the riverfront and miles of jogging trails, which I really liked. There's a Voodoo Doughnut shop about 2 blocks away- delicious! One other comment- Portland has a lot of homeless people downtown, and this hotel is located near many of the missions so this part of downtown seems to have a higher density of homeless people- it's worth pointing out that we did not experience any problems, but be prepared in case this is a concern of yours.

I've stayed here several times over the years, and I don't think you can do a whole lot better in the downtown Portland area. The location is just about perfect. This is used to be the historical Multanoma Hotel, and the old style architecture and elegance has been preserved. The rooms are reasonably priced as well. The only complaint I have is that access and parking are a bit of a pain. SW Pine is a very busy street, and there are times when I've had to circle the block a half dozen times just so a space cleared out in front so I could check in.
