“Old but Modern Hotel”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

This is an excellent hotel situated in the heart of Downtown. Close to bars, restaurants and everything needed for a leisure trip to Portland. Got two 2-bedroom queen suites for 9 people during a recent bachelor party. Staff was excellent, rooms were great. Only complaint is that the suites on the HHonors floor should have a better view. Our view was of another building and the alley between us.

The happy hour every night is great. The have some weird rules around the drinks. Every person needs to bring a keycard, no double shots, etc. Understandable why they have the rules, but slightly annoying.

This is a truly gorgeous hotel. Service is warm & friendly. Our suite was spacious & very well appointed. Good sized indoor pool. Great restaurant on-site (Portland Prime). Very enjoyable overnight stay.

Our small travel group stayed here for several nights. The lobby is very historic and the rooms are two room suites and very well appointed. Yes, the elevators are a bit slow but this is an older structure. One evening, we enjoyed a light supper at the lobby bar. The breakfast room was always crowded in the morning. Hint - scope out the various food locations before you make a choice as they are scattered in different places. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Downtown Portland for 2 nights and it was a wonderful stay.
First, the location is perfect. You're right downtown. One way, you can walk towards the river; the other way, downtown Portland sights. Voodoo Donuts was right around the corner and there were lots of restaurants and food carts to choose from. We couldn't have picked a better hotel for location!

Both check-in and check-out were a breeze. The girls at the desk were super friendly and helpful. When we checked in we asked for a bigger room and we got a superb corner room that had big windows, lots of light and lots of space! This has got to be one of the biggest rooms I've ever stayed in. It had a seperate bedroom with 2 bed, sofabed, desk and chair, one TV in each room, small fridge and sink in the main area, microwave... loved the room. Bathroom was spacious too, with a tub and lots of counter space around the sink. The room and bathroom were very clean. Even the hallways in this hotel are gorgeous- nice and wide, carpeted with beautiful drapes along the windows.
Even though it was a weekend, we didn't hear any noise that kept us up.

The manager's reception was excellent as well. We got FREE cocktails!! They also had nachos to munch on. I highly recommend making the 5pm free reception as we got a very good buzz going for free! But don't forget to leave a small tip for the great service.
The breakfast was equally fantastic. We had omelets made on the spot with our preferences and there was a fully stocked array of choices- bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, potatoes, coffee, juices... great selection.
The manager's reception and breakfast were held in a room that is underground but it was VERY spacious- 2 rooms, in fact- and the service was fantastic. We enjoyed the charm of old architecture.

Parking was expensive at $30 night for valet with in/out privileges. But we'd done our homework and it's the going rate for downtown Portland (as it seems to be with all major cities). The valet guys were very prompt and courteous and we never had to wait long for our car.

I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. I know I would stay here again. It's not new but they've done a fantastic job of updating while maintaining old world charm.

Tip: Ask for a corner room on a higher floor and book in advance! This place gets sold out pretty quickly- probably because of the bigger rooms, location and free breakfast.

Good value downtown Portland. Seems like they have a lot of conventions or meetings at the hotel. However, the floors are pretty quite. Good for business travel. I do not like their pillows - not comfortable.

The hotel is in an excellent location within easy walking distance to the Pearl District, downtown shopping, river walk and the Portland Art Museum.

The staff throughout the hotel was helpful, positive and always very pleasant. We enjoyed the complimentary free breakfast buffet (great custom omelets) and the complimentary happy hour every night.

Our room was clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable.
We would stay here again on a trip to Portland.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite with a view window, otherwise you may be facing a wall.

2 day stay in Portland...very nice hotel, room was a good size, very clean and well-appointed. Breakfast was a fairly extensive buffet. Elevators are a little small and slow, but it is a pretty old building. Lobby is quite impressive.

Parking is a bit expensive, but typical for a city.

No complaints whatsoever about this stay.
