2 day stay in Portland...very nice hotel, room was a good size, very clean and well-appointed. Breakfast was a fairly extensive buffet. Elevators are a little small and slow, but it is a pretty old building. Lobby is quite impressive.

Parking is a bit expensive, but typical for a city.

No complaints whatsoever about this stay.

Recently we had an opportunity to spend some time in Portland,Oregon. We always enjoy the hospitality at the Embassy Suites. This stay was what we have come to expect at the Embassy Suites. Excellent service from vallet to the front desk to housekeeping. we enjoyed the complementary cocktails in the early evening and the wonderful breakfast in the morning. I do want to add I have never seen a Restaurant staff as committed not just to have a wonderful array of food but the coommittment to service went way over the top. What ever they pay this dedicated group of wonderful people is not enough and I mean that.

Room Tip: I have never had a bad room

Only one night in Portland after a full day of travel from FLL. Arrived at 17:30 hours. A beautiful historic building with a completely new interior elegantly appointed. Quick checkin. Super friendly staff. Free happy hour. Great Bfast with omellet station and many other choices. Most comfortable beds...I wanted to take it home. If you stay in Portland stay here! There is a parking garage you can see from the entrance which is more convienet and cheaper than the hotel park.

Room Tip: We asked for a non-smoking on the first floor so a smoker in the group was able to go outside easily...

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in downtown Portland on April 27 & 28, 2012 and had a wonderful time. The staff is friendly and responsive; they have a beautiful lobby with free Wi-Fi; and a terrific breakfast buffet in the morning and manager's reception (with free cocktails, beer, wine, snacks) in the evening. A couple potential downside: They did not clean our room until close to 5 pm on the 28th. My family members who were staying in other rooms had remembered to place the "clean room" tag on the doorknob in the morning; and their rooms were cleaned more promptly. Second: We were directly across from Voodoo donuts; which had a tremendous throng of wild partiers outside until the wee hours of the morning on Saturday--banging drums, laughing, chanting, and generally having a great time. As we were on the 7th floor, we didn't hear it; but my two sisters in separate rooms on the 5th floor were kept up because of all the noise from the Voodoo crowd.

Room Tip: Try to get on the upper floors if you are there over a weekend; in the event the Voodoo Donut partie...

Pros: Walkability! So easy to get around the greater downtown area without moving the car. Inside of the hotel had that older building elegance and the pool was a huge hit with the kids (they were in it every day.) The breakfast was pretty good and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Donuts & good coffee right around the corner, Saturday market right around the corner, catch the street car right down the block, Powell's 5 blocks away.

Cons: Second night there the room next door booked to group of girls celebrating a friend's 21st birthday. Needless to say, sleep was hard to come by as we could hear EVERYTHING they said. They were just having fun but the door wasn't much of a barrier. Had to ask them to quiet down which made us feel like buzz-kills but they were pretty good about it. Insulation would be great.....

Room Tip: luck of the draw I think. Try not to choose a suite that connects to another room with just a door.

First The Good: We stayed here for a quick weekend visit. The building is lovely the history interesting. It was clean and comfortable; the staff was helpful, efficient and friendly. The room while on the small side, was very nice and space was well designed. It was located with-in walking distance of most things we wanted to see and do; located close to the max, and other mass transit options. The breakfast was substantial. We were able to get through the day with only a light snack, (which was free at the hotel evening cocktail hour) before dinner in the evening.

The Not So Good: If you are a light sleeper; if homeless activity bothers you, staying in a different area, might be a better option. There are quite a few homeless people near/around this location. We were never bothered by anyone, but if it you aren't comfortable with it, don't stay here.
There are night clubs in the vicinity that produce loud, late night partiers; which in turn produced police activity accompanied by sirens far into the night. There was also a lot of loud traffic noise. We were on the 7th floor.
I could hear our neighbors in the next room, coughing and conversing... they were not particularly loud... I guess the walls are a little thin. If they had been loud or had a crying baby, it would've made a long night longer. Even my husband (who can sleep through just about anything) didn't get a great sleep here.
Overall, Embassy Suites Portland-Downtown- on its own merits, was a great hotel. If the aforementioned issues don't bother you, I'd recommend it... but light sleepers beware!

This is obviously an older elegant hotel that has been refurbished. And it feels elegant as you enter into the lobby. The hotel is well maintained and the staff was courteous and helpful. The room was huge, we had reserved a standard king room but they substituted that with a two bedroom, two bath and living room. Clean and comfortable with firm beds and great pillows. Breakfast was included and was served cafeteria style with hot foods and custom omelets. Although we were on vacation, this is a well-used business hotel and in top condition.
