This is a fantastic hotel!! We have stayed at MANY hotels throughout the US and Canada. THIS hotel - Embassy Suites, downtown Portland, Oregon is the best. The staff (front desk, bell-cap, valet, housekeeping, breakfast, manager's reception) are all first class. They all go beyond any expectations that one might have and are so friendly and knowledgeable while they are at it. The rooms are lovely - beds and bedding are the best.
This is a historical hotel in a really great and interesting location. We have stayed here many times for pleasure and I have stayed many times for business. We will be back many more times. Each time is better than the last time.
All Embassy Suites have complimentary breakfast and manager's reception, however, this hotel is in a class by itself.

I could not recommend it more!!

This hotel holds a lot of that old style of building that is very attractive. The rooms are good sized and are a little different than a typical Embassy Suites. The "atrium" is just two floors because of a mezzanine, so do not expect the traditional Embassy Suite style. My only complaint is that if you self park you do not have in and out priviledges adn the parking structure is across the street. But I will stay here again.

I booked this hotel based on its historical value. The lobby is spectacular and worth visiting.

Our beginning at the hotel was the old room switch due to malfunctions. The first glitch was an unworkable toilet. The second room turned out to be a smoking room with the smoke eater still hooked up, REEKING. Apologies were made and we were moved to a third room which was fine. The layout was nice, the view was nice and the beds were quite comfortable. My one disappointment was the furniture and decor did not befit the expensive price tag. I would expect a higher quality and more up to date furniture for their rates.

The other disappointment was their manager's reception that consisted of pretzels and soda. All the vegetables were gone within the first ten minutes without being replaced as were any other snacks. Not a big deal but not up to other Embassy Suite standards.

Overall this is a unique building but not worth the price to stay.

My husband and I just returned from a 5 day stay at the Portland Downtown Embassy Suites. Having stayed in many Embassy Suites throughout the country, we were looking forward to this one which is rated so highly. The ratings are deserved!
Valet parking was always efficient and extremely helpful with directions, especially when Concierge seemed to be frequently unavailable. Suite assignment was spectacular.... end suite with numerous windows, luxurious appointments throughout suite, huge bathroom. Encountered new device on shower... it will not work unless one pulls down the little metal ring on the water spout... but hotel staff quickly explained this when questioned. Engineering was willing to adjust the pre-set thermoset to meet our needs.

Staff was always friendly and smiling. Lobby spectacular. Embassy took a historic hotel (built 1912) and remodeled it to meet current day needs while at the same time retaining the historic flavor. Enjoyed the book in the room giving history of hotel.

Food during the conference was excellent as was the food in the main restaurant. Breakfast bar was a bit disappointing... potatoes looked "tired" and fruit selection limited. Juices seemed watered down. But oatmeal, grits, and omelets nice.
Room service was quick, but they sent up soup with no soup spoon and forgot the salad that was also ordered. Quickly corrected with appropriate apologies.

When my husband was declined in cashing a check (we think the wrong # was entered by clerk on telecheck end) and was declined, he stormed off in a huff. I called to speak to Manager on Duty. She immediately recognized I was upset and offered to comp our valet parking for 4 nights! Okay, so I was happy... money speaks and the efficient manager knew how to make a customer happy.

I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to those who enjoy luxurious historic hotels.

We spent two nights at the Embassy Suites and loved every minute. We booked a king room (not a suite) and it was perfect-----beautiful bed linens, wet bar, large bathroom with plenty of great towels and a very large closet. It was also very quiet. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was varied and very good.

The location of the hotel made many things within easy walking distance. We also used the hotel shuttle service for dinner one night in the Pearl District. All the staff were great----Brenda, the concierge, was fabulous.

This is a great hotel for location, great staff, ambiance, luxury and value.
