A friend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in November and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and staff. Our plane arrived hours before check in, yet the concierge was quick to hold our luggage and put a rush on our room, which was finished just 30 minutes later. The design of the hotel is unbelievable! From the Platner table in the front entrance, to the textured throws on the bed, it really is the small details that put this hotel over the edge visually. It is modern without being cold, which can be tough to achieve. The location is also perfect. The hotel sits within walking distance to PSU, which hosts a farmer's market on Saturday mornings. It is also close to all forms of public transportation stations, making travel convenient. The restaurant, Nel Centro, is delicious, inviting and reasonable-especially during happy hour! All in all, I would recommend this hotel to just about anyone-couples, girlfriends, business people, solo. It might not be the best place for families with children though...and parking is valet only. Also, there is no pool or spa, which would have been nice on a chilly night. Other than those small details, it is a Portland gem!

We just spent 2 nights at the Modera and were very impressed. We purchased a deal through Living Social with free parking and a bottle of wine included. Check in was quick and easy with friendly and helpful service. Our premier garden view room was almost perfect but when I saw that there was not a bedside table on"my" side I called the front desk and within minutes one was delivered and set up with a lamp. The room had an adjoining room and the door was the reason for no table. The room was on the small side but so well appointed and set up with every modern convenience you could ask for. The bed was very comfortable with great linens and pillows. Good tv with lots of channels. The bathroom is small but the tub and shower worked great and they provided my favorite bath products, Tarocco. The noise from the street and the courtyard below was a slight issue and the walls are not real sound proof (our neighbors had a 7 am wake up call) and sirens were heard often, but it's a hotel in downtown Portland. We had dinner at El Centro one night and it was nice but we ate most of our meals downtown and we especially enjoyed Hubers. The easy access to the free transit, Max, was really nice and we traveled all over town. The value we received through Living Social made this a great deal but not sure we would pay full price and the parking fee too.

The Hotel Modera is in a great spot if you enjoy a little peace and quiet with your downtown digs. Up the hill a bit, near PSU and the theatres. It's modern, you can tell from the name. However, unlike some "modern" hotels, it's not austere or unwelcomming. To the contrary, we felt warm and at home. The restaurant (nel Centro) makes a great breakfast. The dinner menu looked great, but we had our hearts set on Morton's down the street. The wall gardens and gas fire pits made for a lovely end to the evening. Great deal if you can score parking too.
