One of the city's highlights for an hour or 2 (or longer). Great walks although there are some hills

Only visited the rose and japanese gardens on our visit, but saw there was a zoo, children's museum, arboretum with an Ansel Adams photo exhibit, and numerous walking paths with what appeared to be plenty of parking. If I lived here I could envision hanging out pretty much every day. Did separate review of the rose and japanese gardens.

Right in the middle of "one way street land" is an oasis called Washington Park that is massive for a city this size. There were joggers, walkers, bikers and people heading for the zoo. We found the park by looking for the Japanese and Rose Gardens which are wonderful places to visit and so very different from one another. The Rose Garden and Parking is free and there is a modest fee for the Japanese Garden. The Rose Garden was in full bloom and even in the Japanese Garden flowers were prolific. We visited both and then cruised around Washington Park to see what else it offered. This park is ideal for young families on a tight budget and older people looking for some beauty...and everyone in between. We found Washington Park following SW Kingston Avenue.

This park houses not only the Oregon Zoo, a nationally recognized zoo, but a world class urban forest, called Forest Park, as well as a rose garden and a world renowned Japanese Garden!

This expansive park has just about every type of garden, with the rose garden the most spectacular, even for those not enamored with roses.
