“Great views, trails, and solitude”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Washington Park has so much to offer. The rose garden, the zoo, the children's museum, the arboretum. Then there is the park. It goes on for miles with trails everywhere. The place has been a park for over 100 years so it's well established and well maintained.

“Park full of activities for all ages”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Washington Park is filled with all kinds of things to do. There are several gardens (Rose, Japanese), the Oregon Zoo, nature trails and even an archery range. In the summer there is a small train that makes a circuit around the park. The park is located up a hill overlooking downtown Portland which gives it scenic views. We were told it was too far to walk up there but we did it anyway and it wasn't too bad, maybe a 20 or 30 min walk. A nice thing to do was walk up towards the park and grab a sandwich at Elephants for a picnic lunch in the park. It was also convenient to have the light rail station right in the park to take us back downtown at the end of a long day of wandering around the park.

“Muddy walk”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

I love nature trails and this place is just great. However, after rain, there are a lot of muddy trails that can prove to be slippery. Just make sure to be careful and everything will be just fine. The park has a lot of attractions and lot of people jogging, walking their dogs etc, so you won't feel lonely.
This Park has is surrounded with trees that you can might as well call it a forest. The signs are clearly labeled so you won't get lost. But the long trails sometimes are a little bit scary if you don't know where you are going.

“Fabulous place to roam”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

On a hot summer day it's a great way to wonder deep into the trees and beat the heat. Old growth trees provide protective shade and a great place to pic-nic beneath.

“Portland's version of Golden Gate Park”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Like Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and Central Park in New York, Washington Park is more than just a park, it contains a host of attractions: at its southern end it has the Oregon Zoo, Portland Children's Museum, and World Forestry Center (a museum and educational institution devoted to forestry); further north are the Hoyt Arboretum (including a cool grove of redwood trees), and a Japanese Garden and, appropriate for the Rose City, a Rose Garden. In addition there are monuments, fountains, public art, and memorials including a large one for Oregon's Vietnam veterans. Plus an archery range, picnic areas, and miles of trails with views mainly to the east and north. At about 400 acres it's not as large as Golden Gate or Central Park, but it's adjacent to Forest Park, at 5,100 acres one of the largest urban parks in the country.

Some of the attractions are free and some charge admission. Similarly the parking lots by the main attractions charge for parking but there's plenty of free parking as well. There's also MAX light rail station right by the zoo.
