Beautiful nature in a serene setting. One of the better free natural settings in the Northwest. Good location off Hwy 26 with easy to walk trails for families.

The rose gardens at Washington Park is where I proposed to my wife 43 years ago. With a view of the gardens, we also had a wonderful view of Portland and Mt. Hood. The gardens are very large with so many different types of colorful and fragrant roses imaginable. There are places to rest and relax from the stress of the day. One of our favorites is the line of steppingstones commemorating all the queens of the Rose Festival since 1907. The park is large, also hosting the Oregon Zoo, the Portland Japanese Garden, World Forestry Center, and the Hoyt Arboretum. Certainly too much to take in, in only one day. We joke about a hotdog food cart parked sometimes in the parking lot called "Big Fat Franks", since that is our last name. Well worth a visit on a nice mildly-warm day.

A big park with the Japanese Gardens located there; also a train that runs thru it. Good walking trails. Some homeless people congregate there, which can be a negative.

Even if you have rain a drive thru Washington Park and a stop at the forestry center is well worth it. If the weather is decent stroll the Rose Garden with your camera. The smell is oh so great.

The weather was rainy, but it made the fall colors shine! A wonderful place to spend the day hiking and exploring. I would definitely go back to hike more!
