I love this hike. About 2 hours round trip. Start on NW 23rd, like Starbucks on 23rd and Hoyt. Walk West up Flanders St. turn left on NW 25th Avenue, and walk toward Washington Park, and cross Burnside St. Once in the park, walk up the steps or the road and follow the signs toward the Rose Garden. Once at the Rose Garden walk up toward the Forestry Center. Don't go toward the zoo train or it's a dead end. Once at the Forestry Center, cross Hwy. 26 on a foot bridge and when on the south side of Hwy 26, walk down about 20 yards and there is a trailhead that is marked. Go up this short trail head and you'll be near the top of Portland at St Thomas More Church, intersection of Patton and Humphrey. On cold days, you might even notice snow up there while it's raining in the city. It's about an 800 foot increase in elevation to this spot. Then turn around, come back down the same way, stop at the Forestry Center Max Stop to check out the MAX tunnels if you want. Back to NW 23rd and have some brunch or whatever. It's a beautiful hike that crisscrosses inner city Portland on a beautiful wooded trail the whole way.
