“Needs a facelift, but cheap and clean.”
Reviewed September 28, 2006

This hotel was best summarized by a staff member as she described it to a customer on the phone--"it needs renovation, but it is clean". It is true, the rooms are not much too look at, especially when compared to the building they have you check in at, the much swankier Park Lane Suites. Nothing in the room matched and the bathroom fixtures were worn, but it did seem clean and was quite comfortable. And, it was really really cheap! When my brother and I went, they had a flat rate of $49/night for all the rooms, even ours which had two queen-sized beds. It is also fairly close to shopping in downtown Portland. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

  • Liked — Cheap rates and free internet access.
  • Disliked — Worn and dated room decor.

This place is terrific for the price - I can't imagine how someone could give this place 1 or 2 stars unless they paid over $100 - and this place is less than half of that. It's the same price whether you book it thru the hotel or use a travel site, so do it thru the hotel.

If you enjoy charming old hotels, you'll like this. It's not "quaint", it's the real thing. A bit run-down, but very clean. Our bathroom was pink tile, and the carpet in the room had a design on it - squares and floral, with a pink tone to it. You do have a city view from the back of the hotel, which includes the volvo parking lot and a building under construction. The view is still impressive!
There's a fridge in the room. Friendly receptionists. Breakfast was pre-packaged carbs, but also had apples and great coffee. Free wireless in lobby. Grocery store (Fred Meyer) within walking distance. Terrific and safe neighborhood.
We'll stay here again.

  • Liked — the views, location, that bathroom, the neighborhood
  • Disliked — I can be afraid of heights - the 2nd floor with the view can be daunting!
  • Tips/Secrets — the "2nd floor" and 1 flight of stairs from the front is actually 3 floors high from the back.
