“Love the Monaco!”
Reviewed January 16, 2012

We stayed here over Christmas in a suite and LOVED it. The service, location and amenities were fantastic. We enjoyed the happy hour in the lobby. The gym was great too. The best part was our room though. It was gorgeous, very Parisian, 13 foot ceilings, French doors from the living room into the bedroom, fun furniture, tasteful and colorful wall décor. Couldn’t get enough of the room. Just terrific. Book a suite if you can swing it - they really are gorgeous. Bed was comfy, quiet room, great housekeeping.

Very dog friendly too. They had dog presents for us to take home (our fuzzy baby is obsessed with this new squeaky toy – he’s still playing with it). Staff went out of their way to make him comfortable.

A few words on the service – they reached out ahead of time via email (very approachable) to see what they could do to customize our visit for us. I just really appreciated the extra high-touch.

As others mention, sign up for the Kimpton Loyalty program. Free wifi and a mini-bar credit. Love Kimptons and this one is top of the line.

Room Tip: Suite!! Do it, go for it you'll be happy.

We went to Portland for a few days (11/12 - 13/12) to take advantage of the tax free state. We decided to stay at Hotel Monaco based the reviews on Tripadvisor, the location of the hotel and the cost.

My boyfriend booked our stay at this hotel via an Internet site. We drove from Seattle to Portland with ease and got to the hotel by about 9pm. We encountered problem checking in as the hotel staff were unable to locate our bookings despite us having an email confirmation from the site we made our booking with and having shown it to the hotel staff. A senior staff member finally took over our checking in after having us waiting for well over 20minutes. He was unable to locate our bookings after searching for another 10 - 15 minutes while we stood waiting to get check in. He finally checked us in and told us he will personally sort it out with the Internet site we booked from and let us know. He also upgraded our room given this. True to his word, he called our room about 10 - 15 minutes after we checked in and told us that he had sorted it out.

Apart from the hassle of checking in, I really like this hotel. It's so central to everywhere I wanted to go to. It's close by to shops and some good places for dinner. I like the room that we ended up in. It's big and spacious, clean and nicely appointed. The bed was comfy and everything was in good working order. The bathroom is a little dated but it was clean and spacious. Overall I thought our stay in this hotel was good value for money, comfy and central to most places.

This hotel is also a pet friendly hotel. We saw quite a few dogs there when we were there. They were all well behaved and did not cause any problem. I never heard a single bark during our stay. The hotel also have a little board welcoming their four legged guests near the entrance to the hotel lobby with a couple of water dishes which I thought was a nice touch.

There is also free wifi at this hotel, like most places you just need to grab a password from the hotel and you're good for your entire stay there. There is parking available at this hotel, you can take it in and out as many time you like and it's a flat fee of $30 per day. We were given a half price discount upon our check out, I'm guessing it's because of what we had to go through with our checking in process.

I will stay here again if we decided to head back to Portland for another trip!

We live in Eugene and we go to Portland for the weekend about once every two months just to get away. We've stayed at almost all the top-rated downtown hotels and they are all nice. We had no favorite-- we just went with the one that had the best deal going. For some reason we had never tried the Monaco, though, until we did a three-night stay over New Year's weekend. Well, now we have a favorite hotel. It shines above the others. The hotel itself is really nice, very spacious rooms, nice decor, comfortable beds, good location... but it is the service that puts it over the top. I can't say why exactly, because all the hotels usually have great service, but they manage to do it even better. So we just booked another weekend for February!

Stayed here on a college trip for my daughter. We got one of the larger rooms so she had her own bed with closing doors and privacy. The hotel keeps bikes (and helmets) so I was able to explore some of the great Portland bikeways. Always love the lobby late afternoon for a glass of wine. We met some former Reed College students, which was perfect since we were touring there. Staff was great at offering advice on driving around the city.

This is a great hotel with excellent quality of service. It is a dog friendly hotel and located in downtown Portland. The service is consistent and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around to great restaurants and theaters. The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully appointed. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Just can't say enough about this hotel. I've stayed here 4 times in the last 18 months, and each time I've returned I've been greeted by name by Eric who is one of the valets. The front desk is warm and efficient, the rooms are comfortable. The downtown location--although somewhat noisy--means everything is within easy walking distance even though I am partially disabled. I've eaten at the hotel restaurant twice, and both times the food. and service were excellent. A minor criticism--I wish the in room coffee service had real half and half instead of CoffeeMate.

My husband and I hadn't seen each other in over 4 months due to work that has him living in South Sudan, Africa. We hope to move to Portland after his contract is up in two years and so, we thought we'd spend the holidays there daydreaming of our future. Hotel Monaco was absolutely incredible during our time there. They never failed to show a smile when we walked in the door and were always so very helpful with answering our questions. One amazing member of the staff even went as far as artistically crafting a story about the namesake of the hotel and leaving it in the form of a handmade letter for us to read on our last night. It took a lot of time for her to do this and was the absolute kindest thing any stranger had ever done.

Between the two of us, my husband and I have probably stayed in over 500 hotels across the world and we both agree Hotel Monaco tops them all. We will definitely return as we near our move to the west coast.

Room Tip: We stayed on the hypoallergenic floor because we both have allergies. One of us has significant pet...
