I hate writing poor reviews, but I really had a poor experience at this hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, there was a line about 6 deep, and only one person at the desk checking people in. I went to my app, used the online checkin, and had the mobile key delivered to my phone (this is the reason for the second star).
The room was neat and clean when I entered, but it obviously hasn't been updated in quite some time. I attempted to login to the wifi with my Hilton Honors account, but it failed everytime. I had dinner in the bar area, and walked over to the front desk when they had a lull. They told me that I should actually be using a Promo Code for wifi, and not using my hilton honors. So, I guess the online checkin left out some details (also left out the water that I normally get when I check into Hilton properties).
As mentioned, the room was clean but dated. The shower curtain was quite old, and actually would not stay closed. It seems the rod that holds the curtain was loose, so the curtain kept sliding down. Also, the air conditioner unit was making a thumping sound. Back to the front desk, who had maintenance come up to have a look. The technician was nice enough, but told me that sometimes there is water in the pan, and so the fan needs to be running all the time. They have a way to mitigate this with routine maintenance, but it's hard to keep up with so many rooms in the hotel. So, I'm stuck with either a continuous thumping, or a fan (which is a bit too noise for me).
Next subject is the food service. I've always been a fan of the Manager's Reception. So, I went down for some snacks, and a drink. I ordered a beer (Bud Light) was the available option. The draft was warm, and the snacks were moderate at best.
I tried the buffet breakfast in the morning. Scrambled Eggs, potatoes, and fruit. When I got back to the table, there was a long black hair in my eggs (I have short blonde hair, so certainly not mine). The cantaloupe pieces were hard, and just not good.
Oh, and one last thing - I tried to put some items in the safe, and it was closed and locked. Not sure if another guest left items in there, or if the safe was just locked up because it wasn't functional. Either way, seems housekeeping would be checking this between guests, or a note placed on it saying it is not available for some reason.
Overall, it was just a poor experience. I am in Portland for work about every 6-8 weeks, and I will be looking for other hotels to stay on my subsequent visits
