Although this hotel was expensive, it was clean and in a good location. No bed bugs! One night we had noisy neighbors but otherwise this hotel was quiet and the room was large. Parking was expensive. We chose not to eat in the hotel. Lots of public transportation but we chose to walk everywhere.

My husband and I took the Coast Starlight train from Seattle to Portland and stayed the Memorial Day weekend at the Marriott City Center. This is the best hotel location since it is within 10 walking blocks of just about everything we wanted to do in the city. We spent most of our days at the waterfront, China Town and the Pearl District (when I wasn't shopping at Nordstrom), and the location of this hotel could not have been better. We also booked the "Shop til you Drop" package for $159/night which provided a tote bag, bottled water, granola bar, late check-out, and a coupon book for Portland restaurants and attractions- many of which we were planning to go to anyway, so by using these coupons, we easily saved over $150 on 2 for 1 event tickets, free breakfasts buffets, and half price lunches and dinners while we were in town. The Marriott was cozy in our King bedroom. The view from the 11th floor was super. There was a Concierge Lounge on the top floor (20th), but it is closed on weekends. I would suggest requesting a room as far away from the elevators as possible, since one of them squeaks when it closes, and it kept me up at night- or just bring good earplugs. There is an excellent restaurant (Shula's Steakhouse) on the 2nd floor. The food was amazing, especially for dinner. However, the service one evening was terrible. It took 15 minutes for our waiter to greet us at the table and take our drink order, and then he completely forgot to place the order at the bar, so a half an hour later, I had to remind him about the beverages. He apologized, and we got our drinks shortly thereafter. The meals were delicious, and the portions are huge. My prime rib was a little colder than I would have liked, but the taste made up for it. We also weren't rushed for time since we were staying in that evening, so the really slow service didn't bother us at all. Overall, the hotel gets a thumbs up!! We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

we stayed at the marriott city center hotel, which was centrally located and very comfortable, would stay there again. we actually rode the trolley in from the airport and walked 2 blocks to the hotel. we did not get a car until we were leaving for seaside as parking at the hotel is alot and you can walk to most everything or ride the free transportation throughout the city center. when we came back to portland to turn in our car we had dinner at the portland city grill which is located on the 30th floor of a high rise with a wraparound view. the food is good but pricey but the view is to die for. after dinner we took the trolley back to the airport and were picked up by the marriott spring hills suites van, where we stayed for the night. it is next to the airport and is new and very nice and conveniently located..would certainly go back to the same places again. nice flight on air alaska from ontario, ca.

I come to Portland often for business and usually stay at the Hilton, but they were booked so I stayed at the Marriott this time.

It was a pleasant stay, standard Marriott look and feel. Great downtown location, just two blocks from Nordstrom and all the shopping.

The bar at Shula's steakhouse (up the spiral staircase from the lobby) is small, but nice and relaxing. Service was great, although I thought the food was a little overpriced for what you get (I've eaten at much better hotel restaurants).

Arriving at noon, I had no problem checking in.
The staff through out my stay was pleasant and helpful.
The location is excellent just a few blocks from Pioneer Square
with a cafe on the corner.
My room had a comfortable king size bed, but the TV was a bit on the small
side to watch from bed due to the distance.
The shower had the curbed shower curtain rod, which added space in the
shower but did not allow the door to open fully
into the bathroom.

A plus was the individual AC/heater with thermostat.

While planning for a Valentine's Day weekend trip, we had planned to stay at a boutique hotel with a $150-200 price tag. On a whim, I tried Priceline and was amazed to get the Marriott City Center for the bargain price of $50! The price was definitely right and we were completely happy with the property as well. The staff was helpful, the room clean and the spa was relaxing. Bath and Body Works toiletries were a nice bonus! We walked all over downtown from this prime locale. The lobby was smaller than I expected but I wasn't spending much time there so it didn't matter.

After two nights, we headed to the coast for an evening and then were coming back to the Marriott for our final night in OR. At the first check out, we mentioned that we would be back and requested a higher floor to get a different view of the city. When we returned, we were given a room on the top floor of the hotel with concierge service. Free snacks in the early evening and free breakfast in the morning. Fantastic!

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would encourage others to consider it.

Portland Marriott City Center

This is a fantastic hotel! The decor is beautiful and very boutique-like: this place feels smaller and more welcoming than a lot of large properties do. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, from the front desk, the doormen, the maintenance people (we called about a minor issue, and it was fixed promptly), and the bartender at Shula’s lounge. The concierge hooked us up with a really great segueway tour also—our request was not at all too weird for him to help with. We noticed the manager held the front door for us, or was otherwise visible and involved in a very positive way with guests and staff. We had a gorgeous corner room (I’d encourage anyone to pay a little extra for one of these), which was very clean and had an amazing bed. We also loved the downtown location, and walked everywhere from the Marriott, although, honestly, we really loved being inside the hotel so much that we didn’t want to go everywhere. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!! Highly recommend

And, we really appreciate all the tips from tripadvisor reviewers about how great this hotel is.
