Residence Inn Portland Downtown/Lloyd Center
Ranked #59 of 144 Hotels in Portland
Reviewed July 3, 2014

The room was very nice - beautiful design, comfortable beds, good kitchen with stove, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave. The complimentary breakfast had a good selection, but not enough food and space for large crowd of hotel guests - very messy.
The location of the hotel was not the best for us. It was far from all nice Portland areas. It would work for people who are there for a happening at the convention center, but not for tourists. We did not feel safe leaving our car at the hotel parking lot - the window of the car parked next to ours was shattered.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the lay out of our suites! We are a generation one property that has more of an apartment feel, which can be an advantage for leisure and business travelers alike. As for the breakfast space, we will make the meeting rooms upstairs in the gatehouse available to alleviate the congestion that might occur in the buffet area, especially when we are at a higher occupancy. Thanks for giving us your feedback, and we hope to see you again when you are in the Portland area!

We stayed in a ground floor studio room. It was comfortable with a full kitchen and a fireplace. The hotel is very convenient to the Lloyd Center mall, MAX line, restaurants, and interstates. The free parking is a great plus since hotels that are more downtown charge up to $39/day for parking. The included breakfast was extensive - waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, bagels, muffins, etc. And the brewed coffee in the restaurant was strong and good. The staff was friendly and always ready to help.

Room Tip: Since there are no elevators, chose a lower floor if you don't want to carry suitcases up flight...

While the stay was generally OK, I think this Residence Inn was below the standard of others I have seen. The rooms could use a renovation, and our Queen Suite did not feature a fireplace as the description on booking.com mentioned. We arrived late in the evening, and the room did not seem prepared for four people, even thought the reservation said we would be four - there were only three sets of towels, for example. Staff was helpful, though - when we called to ask for additional towels, they were sent to our room even though it was past 10:30 pm.

We appreciated the free and convenient parking, and the hassle-free wi-fi.

Thank you for choosing the Residence Inn Lloyd Center for your lodging needs! I do apologize that there was not a fireplace in your suite. I'm afraid you may have been checked into a handicap queen studio which is the only queen studios that do not have a fireplace on our property. I'm glad to here the staff was friendly and helpful, but i apologize that we didn't catch your extra towel requests on the arrivals report. We will use this as a training example to ensure that each guest is provided what is requested once the room is booked. I hope this does not deter you from choosing our property again in the future. Any further assistance we can be please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you!

We took our 3 month old on his first flight/vacation to Portland on June 7-10. Since this was our first trip, I wanted to make sure it had certain amenities I thought would make our trip go smoother such as having a kitchen, separate room for my MIL, and free parking/Wi-Fi/breakfast. The Residence Inn was a great fit for us. The rooms were clean and neat, location was great (easy to drive downtown or out of the city, close to a Safeway for groceries, and walking distance to restaurants). I only have two "complaints" (lessons learned):

1) We had booked a 2 bedroom/2 bath loft which was located on the 3rd (top) floor. This was only accessible via stairs (no elevator) which made it harder for my 75 year old MIL to come and go easily. Also we normally travel very light (carry ons only), but with a kid, we had to break out our large (30") suitcase. It was a pain to carry the suitcase up and down the stairs - not impossible, just annoying.

2) Inside the loft, my husband, baby and I took the king bed is located upstairs and we gave my MIL the queen bedroom downstairs (so she wouldn't have to walk up more stairs). On our second night, I was feeding the baby in the living room downstairs and my husband came down the stairs to help me burp the baby. Well in his sleepy state, he missed the last two steps and fell down the stairs. We had the stairway light on, but because the striped carpet on the stairs blends with the carpet at the foot of the steps, it's very hard to tell where the stairway ends. Plus on the left side of the stairwell, the wall ends before the last two steps so you think you've reached the end of the stairs because it opens up into the living room but you still have two steps to go. Luckily when he fell, he landed on the kitchen floor and did not hit the kitchen table at the bottom of the stairs. Even luckier was that it didn't happen while any of us were holding the baby! When we returned home, he had X-rays done and it turned out to be a very bad sprain and no broken bones. To add to this 2am drama, the phones in the living room and the queen bedroom were not working so I had to rush upstairs to make a call to the front desk to see if they had any ice.

So while I think this is a great place to stay while visiting Portland, I can't recommend the 2 bedroom loft for families with young children or anyone that has difficulty walking up stairs.

p.s. I emailed the manager Mr. Armijo on June 15 to inform him of what happened and offer some suggestions on how to improve the safety of the stairs but never heard back.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom lofts are located on the 3rd (top) floor and are accessible via stairs only. Stairs in th...

Thank you for giving us your feedback on your stay with us! We are a generation one property with three floors that can potentially make it challenging for guests and staff, and all of our loft style rooms are on the top floor. We do have staff here 24 hours a day that can help with any heavy lifting you may need. We truly appreciate your business, and hope you and your family are happy and healthy! We hope to see you again when you are in the Portland area!

We were visiting our son and chose this hotel as its location was closer to his apartment than most hotels we could find. Our room was on the second floor right below a larger, 2 bedroom suite. As I later learned, that room was packed with guests. And those guests were constantly on the move. They were walking about and going up and down the stairs till the wee hours of the morning. I am a light sleeper and was not able to get to sleep till 3 AM. Hoping that the guests would leave, I endured another night until I spoke to the desk personnel. They were extremely sorry for the problem and immediately gave us another room on the 3rd (top) floor, an upgrade to a larger suite.

The hotel is by a busy expressway and the hum from the traffic can be heard in the rooms. Sound proofing was obviously not a top priority when they built this hotel.

The rooms themselves were fine. We had lots of room, especially with the upgrade. The morning breakfasts were at times very crowded as there wasn't a large space devoted to them.
Their quality was adequate.

The location is a good one, within walking distance of some nice neighborhoods and parks, and close to public transportation, including light rail.

The hotel staff was very friendly and considerate.

If you decide to try this hotel, I recommend a top floor room.

Room Tip: Top floor.

Thank you for your feed back after your stay with us. We are a generation one hotel and it was built with exterior entrances for accessability. I am very sorry to hear about the noise from the room above you. I wish that we would have known sooner to be able to address it and help in the beginning of your stay to make it more of an enjoyable trip. You can always request a top floor and we will definitely try to accommodate that for you. I hope you choose to stay with us again.

This was not my favorite Residence Inn. Bad check in experience started everything off on the wrong foot. The rooms were large and equipped as advertised. The buildings are worn down and the breakfast was mediocre. We mostly picked this location since we were travelling with a toddler. We like having a full kitchen and separate living room. Free parking is hard to find near downtown Portland. There is public transportation nearby and it was easy to get everywhere either driving or on the metro. We were on the 3rd floor with a toddler which was very hard considering all of the stuff we had to carry (no elevators on property).

Room Tip: No elevators and lots of stairs. 2 floor lofts only on upper levels.

Thank you for providing your feedback after your stay with us. We are a generation one hotel so it was built with more of an apartment syle set up with exterior enterances. Because of that we unfortunately do not have elevators on our property; however, we are always willing to help take luggage up to guests room for them. I am very sorry that the check in experience was unsatisfactory! We definitely do not want that and we want to make sure we can improve in any way possible to make it a wonderful check in experience for everyone. We have a great location and employees working here and I hope that you will stay with us again.

This is just an average hotel. The rooms are large and have a kitchen, but this looks to be an old apartment complex (multiple 3 story buildings) that was rehabbed into hotel.

The goods: Decent location, free parking, free breakfast. Low Price.

The bads: Very weak wifi if you get any at all. If you're on the bottom floor (and I assume the 2nd) you hear the people walking above you. If you're on 2nd or 3rd floor, there is no elevator.

Thank you for your feedback. We are a generation one hotel and that does mean we are set up with exterior enterances very much like an aparment style. I am sorry to hear back about the wifi, we are currectly upgrading our internet during third quarter of this year. I hope you come back and give our location another try.
