“Nice hotel lousy dining experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

The staff, facility, and room were all quite nice

My wife and I stayed here for a single night and since we flew in did not have a car. As a result our dining choices were limited to the hotel dining room and the Shari's Restaurant 50-75 yards away.

We ordered the 12 oz Ribeye thinking " farm country, they should have good steaks" WRONG! I have had worse Ribeye's in my life, but not many and none this bad at $26.00. They were less than 1/2 inch thick and both over cooked. I sent mine back and the second one was next to raw which I sent back and got it closer to medium rare. The result was a tasteless piece of meat which had large portions that were un-chewable.

My advice is to stay at the Red Lion and walk to Shari's for meals. Better food at 1/2 the price.

Room Tip: Go to Shari's down the street to eat or drive in to town and eat at one of the restaurants there...

I very much enjoyed our spacious, well-lit room with a beautiful balcony view of the countryside, but sadly we did not receive a free breakfast along with our room package. Also, we had to cancel our original reservation because of car trouble and we did not receive any kind of refund since we failed to notify them of our cancellation in time.

We got a room here facing the gorgeous backdrop of Oregon's mountains and greenery and the view is amazing! We paid <$30 for my dog to stay here and they have a huge patch of grass (along with doggie bags) for the dog to roam about. Items in room slightly outdated but room was spacious. No complaints.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the view!

We decided to give this Red Lion another try after our last experience, and we don't think we will return again. We made our reservation several months ago, and were very specific in what we wanted in a room. The clerk assured us our needs would be met. They were not. Our room was downstairs, in the dungeon. We were told it had recently been remodeled, but it sure did not look it. The TV was very old, and the picture was horrid. The room was clean enough, and the beds were reasonably comfortable. The work area for business travelers was closed several months ago. The stay certainly was not disastrous, but we will do more shopping around next time.

Nice hotel, seems to be fairly recently remodeled. Nice spacious rooms, friendly front desk staff. Found great price on price line and very satisfied with the overall hotel experience.
Pool and hot tub were clean. Would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling across Oregon.

My wife, myself and our two dogs stayed here for a night on a long trek across the country ending in Portland. The Red Lion in Pendleton is a real flashback to the 80s, which is strangely apropos against a stunning backdrop of west Oregon countryside - almost charming. The King room we stayed in certainly wouldn't win any design awards, but it fits with the overall aesthetic of the hotel, and given the price (just about the cheapest in town, unless you wanted to dare a Super 8 or Motel 6) was not something I'd complain about. The room was sufficiently clean, if not quite perfectly spotless, and quiet. There was a $15 non-refundable fee for our dogs.

My one major complaint here concerns the food. Naturally, one shouldn't expect haute cuisine at a small town hotel/motel, but even so let the next traveller be warned to stick to the standard fare of burgers and sandwiches. I risked the "New York Steak," one of the pricier options on the room service menu, which cemented the pedigree of the hotel - straight from Reagan's tenure in the White House. What I received could only laughably be called a steak, perhaps a quarter of an inch thick, and cooked to the consistency of rubbery cardboard (I had asked for rare) was drowned in what I can only imagine was store-bought salisbury steak sauce, with some decently sauteed mushrooms thrown in for good measure. I do have to say, though, that the mashed potatoes were pretty darn tasty - if only they hadn't been drowned in sauce as well.

Room Tip: Get a room facing away from the highway and looking over the countryside.

We stayed here four nights for a convention. The Good News: view, room size, internet connection. The Not-so-Good: rooms not cleaned until 2:00 in the afternoon some days, restaurant (food and service) poor, hot tub by pool was filthy. I did call to the front desk to find out if an earring had been turned in (lost mine the night before) and was told they would contact housekeeping and call me back. Never heard from them. Not an expensive piece of jewelry, so didn't pursue it. Our room had a fridge and microwave. I think you just need to request it.

Room Tip: The rooms on the opposite side of the freeway have a great view.
