“Great Pizza!”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

Went here with a very large crowd when recommended by the hotel. They have a little arcade area the kids can play at. Hand tossed crust and pizza were very good. Everyone like the variety of pizza they ordered. Also have a salad bar that was ok for a veggie as well. Kids and grown ups enjoyed a relaxing and easy going atmosphere.

“Pass on the Taco”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Looking for a dinner spot in Pendleton & happened across Big Johns. Excellent signage on each end of the block to catch passing traffic.

So you walk i n& go straight to the order counter. Didn't know this. Instead we went to a table & sat down & waited awhile. Noticing no waitresses at all we went up to the counter & found out we were supposed to order there.

Anyhoo, we ordered the Taco pizza because we had just been talking about Godfathers wonderful Taco pizza from back in the day. This was not wonderful. Huge mess is what it was.

Don't think I would go out of my way to eat there again.

very school-sport oriented. Great supporter of school athletics. Food is good, if a little expensive. THE apparant place to go for birthday parties, after-game celebrations, etc.

“Lousy pizza!”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

My wife and I went here on a Saturday night because pretty much everything else in town was closed - and it was only 7:00 PM! We were in the mood for pizza or Italian food, but the Italian restaurant we wanted to go to was closed. I guess if you're not in town during the Pendleton Roundup, they pretty much roll up the sidewalks by 6:00 PM. Anyway, the atmosphere at Big John's was similar to a Shakey's Pizza Parlor, with lots of big screen TV's, and everything is self-serve. You order your food at one counter and drinks at another. We ordered the "Big John's Special" pizza with the thin crust and it was terrible. The crust was crispy, but it was tasteless and dry. The tomato "sauce" tasted like unseasoned tomato paste straight out of a can. I can't remember ever eating a worst pizza. Even a store-bought frozen pizza made at home would have been better. The service was good and so was the beer, but that's about the best thing I can say about this place.
