Our hotel recommended The Prodigal Son Brewery, so off we went. We liked its casual and fun atmosphere, and the food and beer were good. We would go back there again the next time we travel through Pendleton.

We stopped in for lunch during the week after a summertime walking tour of downtown Pendleton. We tend to gravitate toward brewpubs for food on the road, figuring that it's tough to mess up the food and we'll usually find good beer.

The beer was good and The Prodigal Son offers a 8-oz glass, which is nice for having with lunch and being able to drive.

The food was relatively expensive. We were going to order a Reuben sandwich, but $12 seemed high. The basic burger clocked in at $10. Anything extra on it added up.

We ended up splitting a Chicken/BLT sandwich. The sandwich was $10 and the menu said there was a $2 plate split charge, but thankfully we weren't charged that. Sandwich was good, but quite small. Fries were average. The soup, though, was good. So perhaps pay attention to their soup specials and you'll find where they put the care of preparation.

All in all, a "cool" venue, but not inexpensive. If two people went in, ordered a couple of sandwiches and a couple of pints, you could be dropping $30 or $40 for lunch.

On a recent trip from Boise to Portland we happened upon this restaurant for lunch and it was
just what we needed. Was able to recharge my cell phone while we ate! Kid friendly. Good
beer, extensive menu. I am a tuna melt afficianado and it was one of the day's specials so
of course I had to try it. Fabulous, the best tuna melt ever! Served on a whole grain ciabatta
role, it was delicious and HUGE. Came with a lovely green salad, fresh and dressed just right
with a good blue cheese dressing. Took away a "doggie box" with half the sandwich which
we kept cool and ate later. Husband had cod fish and chips and the portion was, again,
huge and delicious. Not overly breaded and greasy, done just right. The potatoes were
also excellent and too many to eat. Atmosphere fine---it's a brew pub, after all. Casual.
Wonderfully friendly service. We were there about 2:30 in the afternoon and the place was
very busy with what appeared to be locals. We had accidently discovered a really good spot
and I recommend it to anyone.

Prodigal Son uses lots of local ingredients. The food was well prepared. The menu is pretty standard brew pub with a few interesting additions. The service was fine. They were getting busy while we were there. The location is easy to find from the highway.

My wife and I seldom have a burger but all the rave reviews we got from the locals brought us here. We tried two different microbrews, both excellant. I had the Porter.. The onion rings were wonderful.
