Made a big mistake! Didn't realize reservations were needed and completely missed the opportunity for the tour! Darn! Looks great and will do it correctly next year!

We enjoyed the tour and learning the history of the Chinese, the red light district, and Pendleton itself. The tour guide was informative and friendly. The tour took two hours. She didn't go too fast and we seniors were able to keep up. There was a flight of 31 steps that one needs to not take too fast. I do recommend this for anyone in the area. I think it will be great when they do the "living" tour.

We had heard about this tour, and our principal interest was historical. We had heard that it focused on the underground facilities used by the Chinese there at night, because they were unable to go outside at night. We were frankly a bit disappointed with the tour. A lot of factual information was provided, but rather than what we had heard, it seemed more like interconnected basements of businesses – Ice Cream Shoppe, Meat Market, etc., and a bit of a focus on “racy” stuff, like illegal boozing during prohibition and bordellos (above ground) after they were all shut down in 1953. Some sleeping quarters, but relatively little on the Chinese culture (and mistreatment) we had heard so much about and that had drawn us there. What is provided is done well, and the tour guide did a great job, but it didn’t live up to our perhaps inflated expectations.

Loved this tour! Underground history over the decades from a brothel, Chinese living quarters and opium den to ice cream parlor. Quite a deal at $15 for over an hour and a half of historical memories. Yes a few steps are involved including one section of fairly steep steps 32 in all I believe, but other than that all is level, but may be a little uneven due to nature of underground floors. It was on the 90s outside and a little warm below ground but not bad on Sept 2. Definitely a must see if in Pendleton!
