Thank you for your excellent review of the Crooked Tree and the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. We try to accommodate food allergies, food intolerances and such – our chefs are amazing at what they can prepare.

“The delicious meal made up for the shortcomings elsewhere.”
Reviewed August 30, 2010

The Cooper Spur Dining room has been known for years as serving outstanding meals in a rustic, ski-lodge type atmosphere. The weather in the lower Hood River Valley was warm, but on this evening, we were smart to bring light jackets for the upper elevation chill.

The Prime Rib dinner offered on the weekend for $14.95 had been enticing us for a few months. We finally found a night that worked, and met up for a meal with some friends and family. Although we had reservations, upon arrival our table was not set for the proper number. This was quickly fixed by sliding over another table. Unfortunately, menus were not passed out, but then distributed after a short wait. These two oversights caused me to worry when the waitress decided to take our entire parties' order (8) without writing anything down. She would come back later, on two different visits, to clarify what we had ordered.

For a Saturday evening it was busy for this little restaurant. There was a beautiful wedding in process on the grounds outside, so that - in addition to the Prime Rib special - may have contributed to the number of diners. Even though our food did not take excessively long to arrive, it felt as though they were short-staffed. With the exception of some back of the house staff to top off waters, the same waitress was waiting on every table, performing bartending duties, prepping salads, and removing plates. Fortunately, she was friendly and accommodating, so we were happy to cut her some slack for her efforts.

The warm bread arrived about 5 minutes after our salads were cleared, and breadplates were not given, so we used our napkins as plates for buttering our bread.
Nevetheless, our food was delicious all around, which completely made up for our random misfires in service. The Prime Rib was succulent and flavorful, accompanied by the biggest baked potato I had ever seen, as well as sauteed vegetables. Others in our party enjoyed the NY Steak, Fish & Chips, and kids choices of Quesadilla and Chicken Strips. Everyone was very, very pleased with their meals. We finished off the evening with Berry Cobblers a la mode and Warm Chocolate Cake. Truly decadent.

We will definitely visit again!

Thank you for your great and informative review. Hope you will come back and try us again and see if we have changed for the better. Be in mind – we do have weddings almost every weekend from mid July thru the middle of September. Mid week is sometimes the best with the specials and a new extended Happy hour on Mon & Tue.
