“You can see some of it from the highway”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We are opposed to the government gobbling up land out of private ownership, but to be honest, most of this land is unusable for farming or ranching since much of it is low-lying and too boggy.

Unless you go to the overlooks off Christiansen Road (we didn't take the time), you can't see much as the river bottom area is pretty flat. You can, however, drive up the hill to the overlooks, which is good since it makes this area much more accessible to those who do not "hike".

Hwy 101 crosses the Little Nestucca River. Probably the best way to appreciate this place would be by boat or kayak. Although we didn't have either with us on the day we visited, we did stop by the boat ramp off Meda Loop Road.

It's a pretty area that is green even in fall. I forgot to take pictures :-(

Do be aware that the main photo here is misleading ... I think it was taken from an airplane or helicopter!

“beautiful”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

this is one of the latest refuges to be added to the Oregon Islands Network. Its very walkable, well maintained, signed ( beautiful boards by artist Ram Papish), and now another overlook has been added. We never drive in that direction without stopping there. Its always different and new, depending on the season . And NEVER crowded.
