We totally loved this place – ideal location, fantastic accommodation, friendly staff – almost perfect in every respect. The staff are excellent - efficient, helpful and friendly.
We stayed in the Haystack Suite. There is a huge bedroom with a large, very comfortable bed, armchairs, fireplace, TV/DVD and balcony. There is also a big living room with a comfortable queen sofa bed, armchair, table & chairs, fireplace, TV/DVD, kitchen area with fridge & dishwasher and balcony. There is one large bathroom off the main bedroom, with two sink areas, two-person Jacuzzi tub, shower and toilet. Another toilet & sink are off the hall. Both are well-stocked with excellent toiletries. In an alcove in the hall is a sink area with a coffee maker (filtered and espresso), wine fridge, glasses and mugs. The kitchen area has plenty of crockery and cutlery – everything you could need.
There is in-room wi-fi access, plus a PC with printer for guests to use on the landing.
The view from the suite was of the beach and Haystack Rock. Yes, you can also see/hear the road and see the Pelican Brewery & Pub across the road, but we didn’t mind this at all and didn’t find it intrusive.
As we arrived on a Friday night, there was a wine/beer and cheese reception in the lobby area. Although it was nice to taste some local wines and beers, it would have been better if a member of the Inn staff had been present to chat to guests.
We had booked the extremely good value Bed, Breakfast & Brew package which gave us (each night) either the beer taster tray or two 12oz beers + $25 credit towards food in the Pelican Pub. The first night we ate in the Pub and had the misfortune to be seated in the Haystack Room at the back, which is a big barn of a space with plastic tables and chairs and incredibly noisy. The noise level was partly down to the fact that there were mostly family parties with lots of children, but also I think the acoustics left a lot to be desired. Having said that, the food and beer were good (although the margaritas weren’t up to much), which made it even more of a shame that it was like eating in a fast-food cafeteria. The next night we ate at the bar in the main room, which was altogether different and we enjoyed our meal so much more.
