Cape Kiwanda RV Park
Reviewed May 16, 2009

We have been coming to Pacific City for over 30 years and have stayed at Cape Kiwanda RV Park multipul times throughout the years. We have traveled acrossed the United Sates and stayed literally in hundreds of RV Parks and have found the conditions and value comparable to most family centered resorts and RV Parks. Most seasoned travelers know that on-site services are more expensive than the local Wal Mart. We are not personal friends with management, but have always been treated like family by the staff. We have nothing but praise for the owners, old and new. It's the perfect location, with a beautiful beach and activities for both adults and children....Including the bunnies. There is great surfing, sand boarding and crabbing just minutes away. The Park also has cabins and new Park Models recently installed. We appreciate these ongoing improvements during these economic tough times. Definitely worth a look-see for RV'ers and Campers alike.

We lucked out when we found this place as our "maiden voyage" in tent camping with our 3 small children. We even took the family dog.

The tent sites were average sized but the bonus was that they backed up to a wooded area and we were able to put our tent in the woods, thus creating more privacy and shade. Trees were in abundance so we made our own clothesline for damp clothing and towels. It worked out great. The firepits are close to the road, so you don't have to haul your firewood far.

Extra bonuses are that the place has one of the best swimming pools and jacuzzi's on the coast. I'm not kidding. We usually stay in hotels and none of those can top this one. We don't usually stay in dives either... Inn at Spanish Head, BelAir Express, etc.

If you need to buy something at the store, you can save a little money by going down to the stoplight in town and taking a left and there's a less expensive store there for supplies. Otherwise if you forgot something and have to go to the on-site store, well, that's the price for convenience. Me? I make a list prior to the trip so forgetfulness is at a minimum. After all, I have 3 little kids and it takes A LOT of planning and organization to not forget something.

The kids absolutely LOVED the experience. It was camping, but not so primitive camping. We were able to get cleaned up. We were able to swim in the pool, etc. Plus the bunnies were cool.

There were a lot of dogs there and our dog didn't really like that so much, but most people were respectful enough to not encroach on your space.

The showers were fine for us, except my youngest hates showers so she cried the whole time. Uggghhhh... sounded like I was torturing her. And this place does have a utility sink for washing your dishes/pans, unlike other campgrounds we've found.

The pizza is a bit expensive but good. We treated ourselves to it one night during our stay. We tried to cook as much campfire food as possible. One suggestion: don't try to rely on campfire cooking if at all possible. We took our cast iron ware and pulled it off but now they are coated with black that rubs off on everything so they've been banned to "camp cookware only". We found a Weber charcoal grill for $2 at a thrift store and it works perfect for camping.

Also, pack your hand sanitizer. For late night potty breaks, they have portapotties close to the tent sites. It beats walking all the way to the bath house in the dark. But there is no hand sanitizer. Pick up a 99 cent bottle before you head there and keep it in your pocket.

We love this place and have booked another stay for the end of August. This time we're trying a cabin for 3 nights and tenting the last night because the cabin was booked that night.

Wife and I stayed here a couple of nights. Had stayed before several years ago, as we had been acquainted with the original owner; a really nice guy who passed away a few years back. It's now run by his son who has really made a lot of improvements to the place. Nice store, indoor pool, pizza place... But, having been pleasantly surprised at the upgrades, we found things to be extremely overpriced. Also, some of the staff was rather rude. And, if you don't like the idea of staying at a place overrun by rabbits, this isn't the place for you. They're everywhere. Lots more than the first time we stayed there, but then we are talking about rabbits! Nice location, it is right across the road from the beach, but if you stay there, I'd avoid having to do any shopping at their store and I'd keep interaction with the staff to a minimum. Doubt that we'll visit Pacific City again, but probably wouldn't stay here again if we do. It's vastly improved from our first visit, but the overall "attitude" has also vastly changed from when the original owner ran the place.

Stayed here for a month in a motorhome. Most of the female staff were super nice, although the guys working were quite rude! (as were the owners!)
Bunny rabbits everywhere....awwww!
The "marketplace" is tremendously and outrageously expensive, even for a beachside tourist trap! $9 for a small roll of electrical tape? $7 for a box of microwave popcorn?!? My favorite was the really pretty windchime spinner things that I've seen at "the Dollar Shop" in a three pack for $1.... here? $12.95 each. No kidding!!
The pool is fantastic, the whirlpool sublime, the workout room well equipped.
Just bring your own supplies!!!!

We camped here two nights. The campsites are long and narrow with an open area for a campfire at the front and treed for shelter in the back. Backs onto a forest. Some sites can be hard to fit a large tent due to the trees and lack of flat areas. Some sites have sand to put a tent, some don't. The showers you can't adjust the temperature so they're tolerable but not warm, the bathrooms are usually pretty clean and they have a laundry room which is handy when you're camping. It's definately not roughing it, they have an indoor pool and their own store with deli and gifts and a pizza place, but if you like that sort of thing it would be great. Right across the street from the beach which is awesome.
