Yesterday we were in the Eagle Creek and Estacada area gong to open gardens. We left Laurel Hedge Nursery and it was late afternoon so we decided to fo back to Stonecliff for a late lunch or early dinner. We were too early for dinner so decided on the lunch menu and selected Salmon Chowder and a Ceasar Salad. We were here a year ago and I gave them a thumbs down on the chouder because it was no more than very thick potato soup that was nothing like we had there in the past. Yesterday the waitress was distressed when I asked about the chowder last year and how bad it was ... we should have told them then that it was not to the usual standard.

We tried it again yesterday and it was delightful, chunky salmon mixed with potato pieces and very tasty.
Waitperson was one who loved her job and it showed.

I would like to make new revised review ... it is worth a stop! View of the Clackamas River, great log chalet resturant and the rock climbing behind the parking lot that I think is in the long range plan for a rock climbing park if it isn't already.

We have been to Stone Cliff on several occasions. It's always just ok, not bad, but not really good either. It's a beautiful setting in a log lodge overlooking the Clackamas River & the service is ok. The problem is, everything is just ok. The food is not inexpensive & it's hard justifying going here for mediocre food. My husband & I had the razor clams tonight. It was one large clam, tender, but over breaded. Our friends had the ribs & lamb. The ribs were cooked fairly well & falling off the bone, but the sauce was uninteresting. The lamb was the best entree, cooked properly to med rare, tender & well dressed. Coconut rock shrimp appetizer was nondescript, puffy over breaded shrimp with no real hint of coconut. Portabello mushroom appetizer was not bad, except some of the mushrooms were saturated in sauce. Sorry, the setting isn't enough to make us want to return & it's the best thing about the place.

In the summer, views from the deck make this restaurant one ot he best. Great for just having a drink and enjoying the view. Been here many times and find the staff entertaining and attentive. The cooking area is small for the capacity of the restaurant and in the past, item preparation has been somewhat inconsistent. Happy hour on the deck during a nice day is unbeatable. I could wish that they had a $50+ per person menu but then I would eat there less often. Live music on the deck in summer (with a cover charge) would be a geat addition.

Have been here many times. So much potential not carried out. Great location, poor management. Service slow every time. Some very nice staff, some not. Some food good, some not. Depends on what day you go. Hate the chairs being full of crumbs. Nice staff but unprofessional. If you did not have the view which only a few get to see I would say they would never make it. I truly hope you get it together and we will be very happy to come back.
