Owner description: The Oregon City Municipal Elevator has been in operation for over 100 years. The original elevator was constructed in 1915. It was powered by hydrolics and took about three minutes to reach the top of the bluff. In 1925 it was converted to electric power that was being generated by the water flowing from the Willamette river. The current elevator was completed in May of 1955. It was included on the National Register of Historic places in May of 2014. The elevator is owned by Oregon City and staffed by the Downtown Oregon City Association. Current hours are Monday-Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday 10am-7pm.

We first took the free summertime Oregon City trolley to the McLoughlin House stop. There we took the big set of steps down to the bottom of the elevator, took the elevator up, then took the stairs again just because it was such an enjoyable walk, with beautiful flowers and waterfalls. Then a block away at the bottom of the elevator/steps is Main St, where there are a number of very good restaurants (our favorites were the Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants). By the way, Wrightberry's Bakery on Main St. has the most best oatmeal raisin cookies I have ever tasted.

Bit like the Seattle Space Needle, so futuristic when built that it very dated now. Loved the old pictures, and the 3D effects. Lift operator was really friendly, told us about its history, and answered our questions.
Just dont get things like this in Scotland.
If you have 15 mins to kill in Oregon City its a must

The view from the Oregon City Elevator is awesome. You can see all of downtown, the historic and recently refurbished bridge and the Willamette Falls. There are historical pictures of the area displayed around the evevator too. After taking in the view, walk old twn downtown for some nice shops and restaurants.

I have gone here all my life because I live here. I used to live about 200 feet from this elevator as a child. It was so fun to go on it!! This is a fun and free thing to do in Oregon City. Walk the Promenade at the top and then go to the elevator. At the top of the elevator (2nd level of Oregon City) you get a great view of the Portland Metro area. Go from the top and then down town. From there you can walk around the downtown area, and Oregon City, West Linn Bridge.
