Owner description: The Oregon City Municipal Elevator has been in operation for over 100 years. The original elevator was constructed in 1915. It was powered by hydrolics and took about three minutes to reach the top of the bluff. In 1925 it was converted to electric power that was being generated by the water flowing from the Willamette river. The current elevator was completed in May of 1955. It was included on the National Register of Historic places in May of 2014. The elevator is owned by Oregon City and staffed by the Downtown Oregon City Association. Current hours are Monday-Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday 10am-7pm.

The Oregon Municipal Elevator is a piece of Oregon City history and I'm glad the city has preserved it for future generations to enjoy it Back when it was built, it probably was the key to our future and to where technology has brought us to today, if your in the area and have never ridden this, I might suggest you should, because I believe there are only four left in the World, so enjoy it while you still can.

Though an elevator doesn't sound exciting the views are amazing, and the holagraphic photos that surround the viewing room make it a real educational experience. Who knew?

Since they reopened the Oregon City Bridge in October, 2012, we now have a regular walk from West Linn up the hill via the elevator. The elevator now is clean and has a custodian to answer questions. The view of the falls from the top is terrific and you get a real sense of the city's industrial past. An explanatory leaflet gives you a wonderful history of the elevator, whose origins date back to 1915. Well worth the ride up! Grab coffee and a bite at the top and then walk back down the stone steps alongside the only vertical street in the world.

I liked the pictures and the stories.
Nice they still have it up.
The scenic walk to the top is very pretty if you chose not to use the elevator.
